Vehicle Security - a letter from Land Rover
A letter from Land Rover landed today, telling me how cunning thieves can be (signal interception) and how LR are working to thwart them. It seems a software update is in the works and I should expect to hear from them in order to book my car in for an update
In the meantime, they have given me a free Faraday pouch (generic - not LR branded) and also the opportunity to (first come/first served) request a free pair of ‘sleeping batteries’ which when I replace the key fob batteries, will put the key in sleep mode after 3 minutes without movement. Duly requested!
It also gives advice on how to disable keyless entry.
Letter seems to suggest it’s been offered to all owners of 2016/2017MY vehicles.
Anyone else got this letter?Corris Grey SDV6 D4 2015 HSE

Nope. I just assumed it was for D5's. I'd looked this up earlier and saw that they are mentioning MY16/17 then it must be for 1st ED D5's... It'll be interesting if late D4's are included, like mine! Mind you, as i've got a huge -pedal-lock then it's a bit moot Discovery 4 HSE late 2015 Euro6

Yes also got the letter for mine. I laughed at the comment that the batteries could take six months to get to you!

For the avoidance of doubt, mines is a 2016MY D4, so late D4’s definitely in scopeCorris Grey SDV6 D4 2015 HSE

Sorted out that minor typo!! You know LR don’t do anything for free, there’ll be an ulterior motive like a little fishing trip. Be sceptical, be very sceptical!
MY 2016/2017 LR cars keyless unlocking flaw recall
D4 16MY
Got my recall letter from LR today regarding the weakness with my remote key fob.
Good bits
Faraday pouch included with my letter.
A promise later this year to fix the issue.
Free sleeper batteries to help with the issue.
Bad bits
Only one pouch - LR would it break the bank to send one for each key? How tight are you?
Sleeper batteries are limited, "first come basis" LR would it break the bank to budget for all of us? The exact number of drivers is known... How tight are you?
Letter is ten years late.
They wouldn't do any of this unless they had to. They must foresee being liable in some way...

I suspect it’s a production issue with the sleeper batteries.
Just disable the Auto Unlock.

Don’t be naive!
When I took a D5 in for this earlier in the year, they did a free health check and lo and behold the discs were ridged on the inside edge, so they quoted a small mortgage for that. Anyway, it wasn’t anything more than the usual wear and tear and they did some back peddling when questioned.
The security update imho is just a Trojan horse to get you in the door. Dont suppose theres actually any modifications bar a new battery or a bit of foil stuck inside the key case somewhere.
