Vehicle tax

Why aren’t the motoring organisations lobbying to reduce vehicle tax?
It’s daylight robbery.

I reckon 5 ysr max and you wont see a d3 on the road, 10 maybe 15 yrs max and the same will apply to the D4.

Tax is ridiculous over here when you look at the state of the roads, and everything to do with them. I know that VED is not used specifically for highways maintenance but the price we pay is not reflected in what we get for our money.
On the continent road tax is a lot higher than ours but then their roads are generally very well maintained.

I went out to a meal for my sons birthday last night in my FL2.....on the roads to and back i really missed the air ride of my D4 thats for sure Big Cry

As much as I agree that the VED rates are completely unjustified in how they are calculated, I doubt we will see any motoring organisations campaigning for a change. The government (regardless who is in power) have an agenda to get older vehicles off the road despite the fact the majority cannot afford a nice shiny new vehicle, or more likely, don't want to get into an expensive PCP in order to get one. With the cost of fuel showing no signs of dropping I have to agree that vehicles such as the Discovery Mk1 - 4 will begin to disappear off our roads, and that to me is a real disappointment.

How much is a Discovery Sport?

I honestly think VED is the bargain of the year considering that you get access to literally millions of miles of roads, having owned and consequently had the cost of maintaining a private road, it costs in the region of £200 to fill a pot hole depending on size, if every car owner paid to fill one pot hole in there would not be any, I cannot understand why drivers who are paying nothing or very little VED complain about the condition of roads, but I do agree the maintenance of some roads is a disgrace and all LR owners do have a right to complain as we are the ones who are paying a questionable amount.
Land/Range Rovers are notoriously expensive but IMHO it is just a way of obtaining money for what they are capable of, for instance you cannot tow with an ordinary car what you can with a LR nor can you carry 7 people in comfort and most owners have them for this reason.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I think you're right. D3 seem to be very cheap now. A 2005 car is 17 years old. The earliest D4 is 13 years old. Fuel prices aren't coming down in a hurry. Not sure I'd be wanting to try and sell a D3 V8 at the moment.
