Vibration

My brand new D4 2015 has a drive-line vibration between 60 and 85km/h
Wheels balanced, swapped with another car, no change. Ideas anyone please? Evil or Very Mad

Check the hand brake shoes aren't rubbing. I have had 3 sets of rear discs changed under warranty. The symptom was intermittent vibration at speed. The rear discs show up burnt around the drum if this is happening.

The dealer has isolated this to the e-diff .
Not sure how this would account for the symptoms?

Still not sure this is the problem, although there were whispers around the dealership that the e-diff had metal filings in it.
Hugely dissapointing to say the least!
Will keep posting outcomes.

Called the service manager, apparently the e-diff was failing, metal filings
in it! Waiting on new diff from UK. Dealer loaned me another D4, nice PR.

Installed new e-diff with LRA's approval. This was not the cause of the vibration 60kph to 80kph, so they are now clueless. Any diagnosis or actions? Would selecting neutral at say 70kph help the diagnosis?
Needless to say, I'm extremely disappointed.

nikki, disappointing to say the least. Are the dealers keeping the car to check out other parts of the drivetrain? I'm not sure how these gearboxes work before suggesting you try that idea @ 70.

Yes, dealers are keeping the car, and have loaned me a demo Discovery 2015.
However, they are at a loss to diagnosis, who can help here please?

Engaging neutral won't really tell you much on an auto and its unlikely to be a the gearbox if the vibration happens at these speeds and but different gears. So test it through different gears in paddle shift.

Drive line faults change in relation to forward speed and tend to be worse under load, so pulling uphill for example. By contrast "free wheeling" ie no power going downhill will put no load through the drive train. If the vibration reduces (and it can disappear altogether) then you have a definitely have fault in the drive line somewhere, not gearbox or engine.

In my experience conventional Diffs tend to get very noisy long before you get any vibration.

Did they strip and re-calibrate the park brake shoes?

Turns out, it was the rear prop shaft. Makes you really paranoid, an un-diagnosed un-related e-diff problem uncovered during the hunt.
How many un-diagnosed build problems are there, to come out later to bite you, even after the warranty period?
Back to the old LandRover reputation.
