Vibration on front wheels

Hi All,

I read the forum for different variations upon the theme "Vibrations"

Still I'm not sure where to start.

My LR3 have just past the 200.000km - if that info helps Smile

My vibration comes a little on/off - and I can find out what trigges it - if anything.
When it's there it's not speed depending. It MIGHT be stronger during acceleration but I'm not too sure of that.

Any inputs?
 Best Regards

Allan

I got some info from a Danish mechanic who said that I should try to change my gearoil! They had experienced those symptoms was caused by bad gearoil even after only 120.000km (servicebook says 240.000km)

I'll try change it Tuesday and write status afterwards.
 Best Regards

I have had bad vibration under hard acceleration especially when towing a large trailer. I had a double flush of the transmission carried out along with sump filter change and it cured the problem. Hope this helps?

I have had this issue. Especially when the car is loaded with people, or when towing (ie car under load). I thought it might be the EGR valves, but transmission oil would be cheaper, and therefore has to be worth a try before embarking on the EGR replacement.

Is yours an Automatic or manual? Mine's auto.

Well, I thought changing the trans oil would be cheaper than the EGR valves, but at £16.50 a litre, I'm not so sure now!

AWR, did you have any success curing the problem after changing the trans oil?

AMONDEGGS, What mileage dod you change your oil at? Mine is just at 74-75k (miles) which matches perfectly with AWR's situation above (120,000 KM). If yours was also somewhere near this mileage, this would indicate more than just a coincidence to me.

Did either of you happen to note how much oil you used? With it being so expensive, it's a pretty important point. I know a dry fill is 9 litres, but a wet fill (with the torque converter already full) should be less. Trouble is by the time you have flushed it out twice and refilled it, it's a really expensive job, even before the labour element is considered!

Anyone know the answers please folks?

Might be stating obvious here but I had vibration on the front wheels and spoke to a dealer who recommended taking to a tyre firm and getting the balance etc checked. Tyre firm checked them and it was the reason, all the tyres had gone slightly unbalanced. Don't know if you have had this checked?

Thanks for the thought, but I'm sure it's not the tyres. I have 2 sets of wheels and it does it on both. Also, I have experienced unbalanced wheels many times, but this doesn't feel like that. Also it is only ever on acceleration, and more often under load, ie lots of passengers, uphill, towing etc. Sounds exactly like the guys report above.
