Vibration and Shuddering issues

The D3 is a TDV6 with Auto box no rear E diff.

Issue 1. I am experiencing a moderate shudder, not all the time, when accelerating, particularly coming out of corners, between say 30 - 50 KMH, if I back off it goes. Feels like wheel wobble but new tyres that have been balanced and it also occurred on the old set that were rebalanced.

Issue 2. I am getting a drumming sound, although not all the time, when the motor is maintaining load on the wheels, when I back off it goes.

Has anyone experienced these symptoms?

Could it be- wheel bearings
unbalanced tailshafts
gearbox ??????????????

Worn univeral joint on a front drive shaft or some play in the front wheel bearings would be my guess.

What mileage on the car . Could also be bushes - but normally that will also cause a clunking sound

I have a very similar shudder. The bad news is I have not a clue what causes it. Mine is on 114kmiles, but has done this for ages. It has never got any worse. I suspect it is the torque converter. Google for Torque converter shudder. It is not as rare as you would think.

I have just had new wheel bearings and tyres, and wheels, so its none of them.

I've got a similar issue.
Accelerate hard on the flat, or accelerate moderately uphill, or accelerate whilst towing ... I get a slight initial shudder.
It's as if I'm accelerating too hard over a rumble strip.
It's not the wheels/tyres, as I get it with both sets of wheels.
From my observations, it obviously only happens [momentarily] when the front end is light.
Already had new wheel bearings - so not that!

Is this the same as others are experiencing?
What is it?

Last dealer said it was needing a change of gearbox oil @ £150.
Needless to say, I didn't buy it!!!

I get the same thing. Don't know what it is but I have also ruled out wheels, tyres, bushes etc.
 Have a nice day!

Thanks for all the input, all descriptions are the same as I have, seems as though I'm not the only one and no one appears to have been inconvenienced by it.

Yep, but would be good to know the cause and fix!

Anyone talked to a dealer re this, to hear their input?

edit: Just googled Torque Converter Shudder [per Gareth] and came up with this!

http://www.shoupsauto.com/Tips.htm

seems my dealers recommendation of transmission oil change is not too far off the mark!

I have replaced around 7 litres of oil when I replaced the transmission sump, I believe that the transmission could hold around 13 litres of oil, although I don't know how all that would be able to be drained, probably would have to be flushed through

I had this shuddering on mine when i first bought it,

55 reg Auto with 93000 miles. Dealer was instructed by landrover to carry out 2 gearbox flushes which i was told was quite a lengthy process and seems to have cured fault.

The shuddering was around the 30mph and worse whilst towing.

Yeh. I've got the same thing. 78,000 Kms and tow a van regularly.
Noticed it on the last trip and during a corner at low speed and under mild accelleration.
Actually had to brake accelleration (take foot off pedal) then re-apply it was soooo bad.

Seems that there are a lot with the turning and low speed/accelleration combos.

Put it to the stealer in MileEnd Adelaide and he could not replicate it. Whistle
I will go armed again with all tis info and try him again.
