I've got a lovely vegan steak in the fridge. In fact all the meat I eat is vegan. After all, it's just made from recycled grass and grains. Rolling with laughter

For about four decades I was not able to eat meat without a sudden and very unpleasant gut reaction. Way back then "vegetarian" was only ever mentioned as the answer to a clue in a crossword, and I survived just fine. When dining out or at functions I just ate all the garnish off the platters, or when at a company function had a word with the catering staff as early as possible to arrange an alternative, or just load up on the vegetables without the meat part.

Kind people did try to give me salad, but I just HATE lettuce. My gut reaction was so bad that I did not like the idea of eating any of the formed stuff made to look like lamb cutlets, etc, with fake meat flavour. Still don't, but I can now tollerate small amounts of meat, but after so long not eating it I don't like the texture or taste.

So all thanks to the ethical vegetarians for creating pressure for more variety for me to eat.
 A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

We've had the almost polar opposite to your experience ... the youngest decided to go veggie about 2 years ago but after 12 months reverted to a diet with meat in it - he never felt any benefit so finally gave up on being awkward (that's not condemnation of veggies, you'd have to know my son Laughing )

However, along the way we tried some of his stuff, including Quorn based products. I thought them bland but ate them anyway.

SWMBO was a different matter altogether. Projectile vomiting after about an hour, never seen her so ill ... but we didn't know the cause. Then a couple of weeks later, we again had something with Quorn ... and again same violently sick.

Because there were other common factors in the food/drink of the days in question, she took the brave step of having Quorn a 3rd time and only plain/bland/safe stuff for rest of that day. Absolutely confirmed it was Quorn.

safe to say, we've not had the stuff since and, if there are "vegetarian" offerings anywhere, she avoids unless she can confirm Quorn isn't amongst the ingredients.

It's just a big bucket of fungi soup that they grow and then process. The non-vegan variety uses egg whites to help bind it. They do a vegan variety that uses potato as a binder I believe.

I'm interested to see whether vat-grown meat becomes a commercial reality / success. I'd be interested to try it in a comparison with animal-grown meat just to see how it compares.

Although not vegan, we'll be having a "gardener's pie" tonight - it's a vegetable-based version of a shepherd's / cottage pie using green lentils as the protein-bulk item, various other veggies, and topped with cauliflower cheese instead of mashed spud. I've made it before and both SWMBO and I liked it. A good way to get filling, warming fodder and keeps the veggie count up which is no bad thing. I call it gardener's pie rather than vegetarian shepherd's pie or vegetarian cottage pie because both of those are meat-based dishes in my opinion.

I was a confirmed carnivore and very anti veggie till i had 3 weeks in india .never new non meat foods types could taste so nice and have to admit i ate some really tasty stuff.

Now i still eat meat often but will say that i eat less now than i did and are much more willing to try some of the veggie stuff around somes good somes awful.

ive always eaten a lot of fish so not picking the main meat options in restaurants isnt much of a hassle

That said, I’ll eat Chicken and pork here are there, but very rarely do I eat any Beef or Lamb, maybe a couple of times a year.

I’ve got to say I could turn Pescatarian like SWMBO.
