Hi,

What you need are the bolts, washers and spacers.......
Slightly different from those shown in the photo......

I'm trying to track some down as well......
I have a set but have lost one of the spacers into the chassis, never to be seen again......

Thanks
JC

IIRC someone successfully fished one out using a magnet 🧲 on a piece of string.

Hi,

Its not rattling around in the chassis.
I have a small endoscope (usb from ebay) but no sign of it yet......

I'll have a go at fishing but looks like it has been eaten by the Chassis.....

Trying to source another spacer or 2 or possibly try metal shop for something suitable......

Anyone have any idea on the spec for the spacers?

Thanks
JC

OK ... haven't got a towbar and haven't fitted one to a D4 but, from what I've seen in other posts, the picture Greenman has posted is exactly what you are after. (so happy if someone corrects me.)

The "spacer" has a protruding threaded section and, beyond that, a non-threaded bit that allows it to pass through the smaller "exit hole" and be grippable/manoeuvrable whilst you get the setscrew in to place at the other side of the chassis.

In terms of functionality, a tubular spacer would 100% work and you could use a single bolt straight through ... but I suspect others on here will wave the "not type approved" flag at this point.

Let me be the one to correct you mate Laughing the ones JC had were from my Towtrust TL1 so were most definitely correct for a D4, slightly different design to the others in that they are just a long spacer with a through bolt and some washers and a nut.

The biggest issue with any of these spacers is that they are designed for a new chassis and don’t count on there being any rust or crud inside the chassis member (I know highly unlikely with an LR Rolling with laughter ) so they need to be filed/ground down a little and test fitted (the point at which JC lost his).

The string idea sounds good and maybe some gentle taps with a hammer on the chassis rail at various points or even remove the rear bumper..? Got to be quicker than trying to find a spare Crying or Very sad

Hi all,

Just got a quote from TowTrust for a new chassis spacer.
Very reasonable - £2 plus VAT and Postage -- £9.

I assume they will also do the bolts, washers and nuts........

Many thanks

JC

So they ARE ok regarding type-approval, so just get some made. Let's face it - a stack of washers would do the job.

The P&P charges from TowTrust are ridiculous.

If you think those postage charges are crazy then add another £10 for sending up here as apparently they have moved my house to "The Highlands" Laughing

Post office charge for 15kg box double the size needed for a towbar , so therefore cost of sending a towbar, looked to be £9.35 when I was looking earlier.

So £6.60 to send a spacer seems very excessive to me. (£9 - (£2+20%) )

Hi

Postage was £4.99 plus VAT......
Spacers were £2 each plus VAT

Cheaper than driving down to pick up.....

They also do a full kit of bolts, nuts, washers and spacers for ~£30

Thanks
JC

I bought a set then went to fit the tow bar and found they were already bolted in the chaise.
So it was just a case of undoing the nut putting on the bar and the nut back up.
I have 2 in my garage.
