Warning light - how much?

Just had a warning light appear on the instrument cluster. It is an orange engine symbol, and is on the speedometer display (not the little LCD panel). It does not have an (!) exclamation sysmbol in the middle.

Looking in the manual, the only reference I can find to this warning symbol is applicable to petrol engines only.

So firstly, can anyone tell me what this warning relates to? Is it still safe to drive? and most importantly, how much is it likely to cost me to rectify?

The car is a D3 07 TD6 HSE with 72k on the clock.

Thanks

Simon

Usually appears after a fault is logged, either engine or transmission, but severity will depend on numerous things. I've had this light up dozens of times and never been a "real" issue. In my case they couldn't find anything wrong with car and put it down to blown rear tail light brake bulb.

It stays lit for the next 2 or 3 times you switch the ignition on/off then it goes. suggest a quick call into your dealer for advice.
What's the point.... it all comes out in the wash anyway!

The system has registered an OBD fault and is likely to be a sensor of some kind be it MAF or Cats or Lamda Oxygen Sensors...

Normally OK to drive on an orange light but not red.

Get it plugged in and check the fault code.

Its the engine management warning light. Could be lots of things. Best get a dealer or fault reader equipped indie to read the fault code and diagnose.

My orange engine light came on about a month ago - put a code tester on it and got P045C - EGR.

Booked it in for them removing (it's a 2007 engine so needs software update) and finds out the EGR's are already removed Laughing

Poor software update or something
