Washer jets failing!

Hello all,

Im sorry to put this up as my first post but i really could do with some advice. Sad

I bought a 2006 D3 HSE privately yesterday. Ive wanted one for ages and have spent quite a time looking for the right one as I have new member of the family on the way. Anyway I thought that I had found the perfect one - in mint condition and what appeared to be full working order.

I thought I had checked everything but it appears that the washer jets just dont seem to work. The wipers come on when the stick button is pushed, but there is no jets front or back - infact there is not even any noise from any motor to say that it at least is trying to squirt. The washer tank is full and it does not seem to leave any evidence that it is leaking or blocked. Checked the fuse and that appears fine.

Grateful if anybody had any ideas?

If it is the motor would that be identifiable to the garage via computer link or would they have to manually do a full system check?

Many thanks

Fishy

I expect the tube has disconnected, pull the lining off that is under the bonnet and look. Mine suffers with this, I'm not sure if it is the hard water increases pressure and the tubes pop off.

I've got exactly the same problem. We initally thought it was the motor but then found out that current was not even getting to the motor at all. Fuse is fine too.

I should be taking it in for a more in depth look at it sometime in the next 3 weeks

In the meantime any pointers would be appreciated!

The rubber tube on the driver's side keeps popping off on mine all the time. Sad The jets look quite gummed up so maybe there's too much back pressure.

However, I've now replaced both washer jets with the newer D4 part. So far the tubes have stayed put. Plus I hope to have two working heated jets this winter Thumbs Up

If the rubber tube pops off, wouldn't the motor still try to pump?

In the case of the OP (as well as my case) the motor is not even making any sort of noise indicating it's trying to do something.

Cheers

Just had the bonnet cover thing off and there is no sign of leakage. Any other ideas?

When the washer jets work normally - I assume there is a noise to be heard? Ie a motor pumping?

Im getting so sound at all.

@bigdave

Mate,

What are these D4 heated ones you mention? Got any pics and are they powered to make them heated?

Thx

Hi Darrell,

The D4 ones are a direct replacement for the D3 ones - exactly the same but ( i hope ) have slightly stronger heated filaments.

These are only any good to you if you have the cold climate pack - if so the just replace your old ones - ask TLO for a set.

Cheap too.

Hi all,

So I checked out my fuses. Fuse 11 was blown. Replaced it with a 15A one after uttering countless expletives at getting to the spare fuses. Still no screen wash but we have some improvement. I am getting a click from the fusebox area every time I press the screenwash button which sounds like a relay working. Rechecked the fuse after hearing the clicking. It is still fine. Both front and rear washer jets don't work.

I don't hear the washer pump trying to work though, though I was working alone so didn't have anyone to press the button while I poked my head under the bumper. Should the pump be audible while pressing the button with the engine idling? Anyone think my washer pump is dead?

PS. I've never had the screen washer working since I bought the vehicle 2 weeks ago. I intend to take it back to the dealer but I like to do the diagnosing part myself. Speeds things up and easier on the wallet as they don't spend 2 hours figuring out that the fuse is ok and the pump is dead.
