Water in Land Rover Driving lamps - Wrong Type of Ford!

I fitted a set of Land Rover Driving Lamps to my ABar soon after buying the motor about 4 years ago. Since then, I've driven through numerous fords of varying depths and never once have I had any water ingress into the lamps until yesterday.

After a day on Salisbury Plain, the group I was with did the 3 fords at Winterbourne Gunner to wash off before setting off home. After the last ford we all got out to check that our lights and number plates were clean and 2 of us found that we had an inch of water in each of our driving lamps.

I bought the lamps 2nd hand and remember changing the bulbs to Osram Night Breakers when I fitted them to the ABar. I've not taken the lamps apart since then so don't remember if the glass can be separated from the reflector or if it's effectively a sealed unit. I'm not getting home from work until after dark so can't have a play around until the weekend.

Can anyone tell me if the glass separates from the reflector or if I'm going to need to remove the bulb and drain the water out of the hole where the bulb goes in? Any tips on preventing the same problem occurring the next time I go wading?

Phil, the glass is a seperate sealed unit, if you need to replace then contact TLO and its Range Rover Driving lights that are sold seperately as componants, D3's are not.

So, if I need to replace the internal sealed unit bits (if the water damages the reflector), Nick can supply just these bits?

Yes he can, the sealed glass is available as a Range Rover item, fits identical.

I had a person view my D3 when I thought to sell, pressed every button etc, did'nt realise to check the driving light switch whilst the covers were on, and when I used the lights with the covers on it melted the guards and cracked the lenses.

PaulP gave me the info, and I paid approx £90 from TLO from memory

Thanks Jason. Will bear that info in mind. However, if I need to find £90 or so I might consider putting it towards buying some better lamps!

Smile At least the water in mine is quite clean compared to that in your photo Dunc!

Are the Lightforces easy to fit to the ABar or do you need some type of fitting kit?

If in a reasonable condition means 'good' I'll take them! (I'll be in France rather than Holborn on Thursday but they can always be left for me). Thumbs Up

i used the existing two mounting holes for the LR lamps and then bolted a steel bar to the mounting holes. drilled 4 holes in the bar and fitted the LFs..

Hi guys

where can one get the stone guards loose? I had one nicked from my wife's D3?

I would appreciate some help. The stealers here in SA want to sell me a complete set for R7000.00 which equates to about £650.00.
