I don't want to stop washing my car. It's the first brand new car I've every purchased (the RRS was a dealer demo!) and the most expensive. Therefore, I want to look after it and I'm not going to let the paintwork get damaged by six months of flies and bird crap.
Has anyone every tried the waterless car washing systems? Years ago I remember seeing a stand at country shows where you simply washed the car with a spray and used loads of rags. You then washed the rags in the washing machine - not really completely waterless then, but hey..no hosepipe or buckets.
I've also found this http://www.drywashcars.co.uk/index.html but then it says you must removed caked on mud first....so it might not be that good in removing all dirt.

We in the trade use "Dry Wash" which is very good if your car is one of the lighter shades. It does work well on black but its a panel at a time then clean the cloths etc. I keep some in the boot in case of bird lime (its before watershed)

I understand a drought order would trigger a 'hose-pipe ban' but are you prevented from even using a bucket and sponge? Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
I'm getting a water butt this week, but then it has got to rain to fill it up, and we've hardly had any. Near Oxford is the furthest place away from any coast, so we probably get less rain around here.Matt

From what I heard on the radio today, the drought order bans ALL car washing.
I followed the link after posting my question and yes it does ban car washing.
Do you know anyone who lives just outside the area affected whose drive you can go and wash your car on? Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

I know this place in Stockport, Actually its in Romiley, and I believe it fits a D3 perfectly and has a plentiful supply of water.

..and god forbid just in case we get a hosepipe ban - I have a water butt too!
Mind you - since I'm in London (again) this week, I think Mrs N would be a bit upset if ANOTHER D3 turned up on the drive and a complete stranger asked to borrow a hosepipe, jetwash, bucket and sponge! Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Trouble with anything waterless it must damage the paintwork as you are just pushing dirt and grit around. A lot of carwashes are recycled water so aren't affected by bans, maybe that is an answer. We don't have a ban here, but my parent's do 3 miles away!DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Very careful with waterless gents !
My brand spanking Mondeo ST24 was nearly ruined by one of the immigrants who managed to create little swirls all over the shop. I didn't really notice till I got home and boy was I p*ssed.
I think it was caused by fine grit on his rag - managed to get 90% out with t-cut but I would never do it again.

Tis an easy solution. I will give out all the addresses of leaking water tanks in the "hose pipe banned areas" you can drive to these locations, park your D3s next to the tank, say you are checking the tank for me, and you can wash your car at the same time
Or come to Boughrood do a bit of 4x4ing and wash your car before you leave In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
