Watford Gap services, Northbound to Southbound service road? |
|
I'm on a road trip this evening to collect some wheels and plan on meeting the seller at Watford Gap services. SatNav and various route planners all tell you to proceed to the next junction and double back if you want to go from Northbound to Southbound, but a close look at a map reveals an access road from each side of the motorway services out onto the B5385 Station Road.
Does anyone know if these access roads are open to the public? I know a lot of service stations have these slip roads but there doesn't seem to be any consistency on whether they are open access or passholders only. For once, google has let me down I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

As you are probably aware, these are normally for deliveries, staff and emergency services only, with no access for the general public and barriers and signs to show this. However, curiously, most of the barriers don't seem to work for very long.....
Can't actually help with the Watford Gap services - never tried to get out there!
Best case: you get there and are able to use the slip road; worst case: you have to go to the next junction! D4 XS MY12 Galway

There was a time when you could use the access road at the gap as there are industrial units at the rear of the northbound services. I don't know if you can still use the access road but presume you can if the units are still there.

The barriers on both sides are up at the moment, in fact, they are very rarely down Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE

I was northbound in my D2 when it broke down here. Was recovered back across this service road (January 2004). It's not open to the public, but easily accessible.......... Don't even remember seeing barriers. Disco 5 HSE Lux

Thanks for the replies folks. As it happens I ended up meeting the chap with the wheels a fair bit further South, due to his journey running a little more smoothly than mine (A34 was a car park). We met at the GreenMan at Silverstone in the end. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
