Webasto oval timer question |
|
So now I have my FBH up and running I have installed the Oval timer. Can someone tell me the correct sequence of button presses to set the auto timer as the instructions are not very clear. I have managed to set the correct time and the 3 desired 'heater on' times. However as I set each of the 3 time options I pressed 'Set', I think that is actually disabling that time setting. Do I therefore scroll through to my desired time and just leave it until it stops flashing fast? Do I have to do this procedure every day to activate the next timed 'fire up', i.e before putting it to bed do I select 'programme 1 for my 08.00 hr switch on ? when i do, it flashes the programme number and the flame icon all the time.
I take it each programme should have the flame icon showing rather than the fan?
Also.... What is the point of having the 'fire now' button. As I understand it the engine has to be running to take advantage of this option, but surely if the conditions are such, would the car automatically fire it up ?
Many thanks

if you have the program times set and the correct time then it is just a matter of pressing until the program time you want appears then leave it alone eventually the screen will go blank, but the car needs to be asleep when the timer is due to trigger or the FBH will not fire. hope that make sense Tintenter

Thanks for the replies, as I do not have the remote/ telstart option I have to rely on the timer. I thought it would work similar to our central heating timer, once set up and programmed you dont have to touch it as it would come on, burn for the desired time shut down then come on at the next programmed time. I suspect you have to request each timed event individually after the last one has expired ???
confused myself then

Unfortunately the person who designed the timing functions of the so called timer must have been on the sherry. As heating timers go it is the worst, most ill thought out system ever. How hard would it have been to add day counters or the like? At a retail price of around £60 you expect so much more.

Thanks Bluemeanie, the link confirmed my suspicions - a useful explanation from 'NoDo$h' - the timer is only programmable for 1 activation, though you can enter 3 times. Prior to leaving your car you select which time you want it to come on next. As Ian G points out 'rather an ill thought out system', Its certainly not what I thought it would do

It heats the coolant water by burning diesel. The hot water is inturn pumped around the engine to aid warming. It does this when the outside temperature is below 4deg. C. and the engine is less than around 85 deg. C. In a nutshell
No real idea about your fault though - coolant level switch would be my first check.

Below 5 degrees and engine temp below 75 degrees
the low fuel light must not be on and the battery must be between 10.25 - 15.5 volts. ...if it drops below 10.25 volts the FBH will shut down G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Not intended to help the condition of the engine primarily. However running the heater before starting the engine (by installing the timer) will heat up the engine before cranking and thus reduce wear. Originally the timing facility was provided by land rover but due to some EU rules it was not allowed to continue. Now it's only function in an unmodified state is to heat the engine (and thus supply cabin heat) quicker while the engine is running. Was fitted to diesels only, but not in all countries I believe.
I think doing a search wll answer a lot of your queries.

Just fitted timer today to the other halfs D3, when you flick through the 3 times, which ever of the three you leave on the screen will be the next setting or 'on' time, so get to the one nearest you require and adjust to the required time, leave it on the screen and your up and running. 8) If you press and hold the set button and press the <or> button you should be avle to change between fan & flame. Press set button and <or> the time and clock symbol are displayed, release set button then press & hold again you should get the heater run time flashing (30 mins) as well as fan and flame symbols, set the heater run time with < & >, I've found 45 mins about right for winter use which gets engine nearly to normal temp when you start. again leave it displaying and when it disapears from the screen it will be set. Hope that makes sense, but it does sometimes seem to have a mind of it's own, but left it set for 5 tonight and it was running great at 5.30 when i went to check Love landrovers despite all the've thrown at me !
