Weird engine management fault
Hi all
Wonder if anyone can shed any light on this issue...
We have recently moved to Devon and now travel down some very steep local lanes to get out to the main road. When travelling down one particular steep hill two weeks ago the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree and the screen displayed an engine system fault. The vehicle then lost power. My wife was driving at the time (I was away) so she limped into a gateway and called out LRA. When they arrived they ran a diagnostic that apparently showed that everything was fine and simply restarted it. They suggested that if it happens again we should book it into a dealer for 'a check up' (although quite what a dealer's diagnostic check will show that theirs couldn't I'm not sure!).
Anyway, all was fine for about a week and we drove down the same hill several times trying to recreate the problem (in case it was incline related!) and all good. Until today.
Today we got the same problem, in roughly the same place (which makes me think it might be incline related). Same lights on dash and loss of power. This time we simply restarted the engine and it seemed to be ok. Very strange.
Otherwise it is driving fine with no other symptoms during normal driving.
Any ideas what may be causing this or similar experiences so that I can point the dealer in the right direction?
Would appreciate any views...MY11 Disco 4 SDV6 HSE

You need to pay blood money to the D3 trolls you never know what you may find in those Devon lanes.
Apart from that I hope its not incline related for a off road vehicle

Tank was nearly full the first time and about one third full today so no pattern there.
Actually tried coming down hill in low range and it behaved fine. As I say, we use this lane most days at least once or twice and has only done it twice but has done it twice in the same place with the same fault.
Was off roading yesterday and car performed faultlessly up hill and down dale in low range with mud and ruts on.
Very strange... perhaps it is the D3 trolls!MY11 Disco 4 SDV6 HSE

I am wondering if there is a high powered radio transmitter operating nearby on those occasions? I had this type of fault when I used to pass the Port of London Authority transmitter in Gravesend. At the time it was a Renault with a spoken advice/fault annoucement system. It would tell me there was an Engine management failure and to proceed to a main dealer?? When the car was out of range of the transmitter, everything was back to normal.Run silent, run deep!! HM Submarines Conqueror, Churchill, Renown, Ocelot, Porpoise, Onslaught.

If it was uphill I'd take a punt at blocked fuel filter & fuel starvation. Been down pretty steep slopes in mine & other D3s with no issues, wonder if pick up in tank is the problem??

Now getting similar problems, mostly going up hill and putting in a bit of throttle at MWay speeds (yesterday with 300kgs in the boit). G1bbo did you get anywhere resolving it?

There is usually a code stored if it came up with a message on the display.
If LRA didn't use IDS/SDD or similar it may have only checked for EOBD codes, not further codes that may be stored.
Best get it plugged in & read all the codes.

When this did occur and I limped it back to stealer they couldn't read the faults as they had to shut the car down to connect the IDS thingie to it, unfortunately wiping them. They did suggest changing the MAF sensor which hasn't made a difference.

Hmm, strange, as most codes are stored, with the mileage they occured, even after battery disconnection.

could be some water sitting in something that sloshes to just the wrong angle on your particular lane?
Plumbing is such a pain - at least electrics work the same upside down!
