United Kingdom 2008 Discovery 3 TDV6 XS Manual Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3

Hi everyone.

Long time lurker as I've long considered the D3/D4.

I have a D2 which I was planning to keep for a year or two, but an accident and some hand surgery meant I needed to start looking for an auto.

Can't drive for another week or so, but when I spotted the cheapest D4 HSE on Autotrader was 2 mins walk away, I popped round and bought it.

High miles but presentable, a few enjoyable little jobs to sort. It's never had a towbar so I've ordered a used fixed setup with wiring.

Also came with the icarsoft tool - I realise the IID seems to be the go to, so I'll be reading up on which is best!

It's santorini black with almond interior, can't wait to drive it!

New guy intro

Hey all,

My name is Mike. I'm new to the site, but have owned 3 Land Rovers. First was an 06' Range Rover Sport which I regret getting rid of. I now have an 02' Disco II and an 05' LR3. Just picked up the 05 a couple months ago for a steal. Fixed most of the issues the previous owner mentioned and couldn't fix. I'm loving my LR3. When I bought my RRS I kinda regretted it later that I didn't get an LR3.
It's pretty stock right now, but I have plans for it if I can get my command shift working.

Looking forward to gaining some knowledge and passing along anything I learn.[/img]

Hi, I am driving my third Discovery 3 (2006 after a Discovery 2 (2001) (drove 300K Km and it is still around at a farm in my village now with 500k km) and another Discovery (drove 350K km until the crank shaft broke, it had a total of 489.000 km...). Maintenance always done at Landrover... if you have got a good one it helps in my view... Does not mean there are no good other ones...

So I am on my way with the Discoveries now some 17 years and they have left me really down on the road only 3 (in fact 2) times in that period...

1. Discovery 2 - In 2006 - Rear Air suspension Calibration went nuts and could not continue my trip but I was luckily in town...
3. Discovery 3 - In 2017 EGR valves malfunction - Simply replacement was needed but it left me by chance nearly in front of my door...
4. Discovery 3 - Crank Shaft broke - November 2019 - On the road at night from Prague to Luxembourg broke down in the middle of Germany 22.00 h. at night but no rain or snow... Smile

One special case needs to be mentioned, namely a humidity problem of the gearbox of the discovery 2 but it always allowed me to continue my journey with 80 km/ h... Problem was solved after 2 attempts...

With the current one I am slightly over 360.000 KM I have taken it over with some 330.000 km from a landrover fan who had done excellent maintenance and the goal is to pass 500.000 this time. Just renewed the rear suspension (upper and lower) new valves front and back for the air suspension system... I am using a Defa (702) Pre-Heater. Upcoming are EGR-valves and change of automatic gearbox Lubricant in about 40.000 km... to be continued..

Looking forward to exchange information and experience... Best regards, Albert

United Kingdom 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Bonatti GreyDiscovery 3

Hi All,

First time Land Rover owner here having recently bought a high mileage but well maintained and tidy 2006 D3 HSE. I bought it primarily as a tool for shifting and towing, but am tending to find myself getting into it in preference to the substantially newer, more economical, more powerful, but less characterful, daily driver.

Really enjoying the Discovery experience so far and finding this site to be an invaluable resource for tips, advice, problem solving and preventative checks. I reckon I've already averted a good many lurking future problems by attending to lots of little bits and bobs that I'd never have been aware were it not for the wealth of knowledge contained in these pages.

Looking forward to continuing to learn about the D3, getting to know you all, and hopefully being able to put something of use to others back into the forum along the way.

Cheers,

Simon

Questions: Heating system problem,& webasto

Hello All,

I bought 2008 Land rover Discovery 3 (2.7cc) TDV6 three weeks ago. Then, last week I went camping for an assignment. First, while I am driving there's problem that antifreeze bleeding from its cap of the tank when it 's getting hot (but I think it's normal temprature as shown on the photo.) So, please help me what the problem is and how to fix it. Also, we it's getting hot internal heating system blows cold. I think, there is air gap squeezes from the engine into the internal heating radiotor. Is it depend on cap of the tank or gasget failure of the head of engine?. Second, how the Webasto works? is it working autmatically? because I couldnt find any controller inside the car. Thanks

Coming back to the fold!

Hi, I’ve been driving German and Japanese 4x4s for the last 6 years, but due to a change of job and having owned and loved numerous Defenders a Series 3 and Discovery 1 and 2 I’m on the hunt for another LR and I think it’s going to be a V8 D3 this time. No doubt I’ll be picking some brains on here. Cheers Jim

Engine Management Light

Recently purchased a 2016 LRD4 with 52k. The Engine Management Light came on when running low on fuel (50 odd miles to empty) Re-fuelled & light went out. Only to come on permanently again after around another 300 miles. The 'PDF full' light did come on in this time, but went out after following handbook advise to go for a motorway trip!
Any clues please?

Evening!

Hi, ex Freelander 1 & 2 owner, the 2 got replaced by a Merc estate when things started falling apart but I miss the Landies so I'm thinking about selling the Merc and getting a Disco 3.

Hi All,

Mitch here, a land rover convert from a young age. Current bus is a 2012 SDV6 D4. It's my first D4 after 2x D3's and a D2, so I'm not new to them.

So far I've got an ARB colour coded front bar, 9" LED spotties, Traxide dual battery setup, and a UHF radio installed. Have also upgraded the 11 speaker Harmon Kardon that it came with to the later 17 Speaker 'Logic 7' system. Well worth the effort!

Look forward to learning more and more Smile
