Wet Carpet, A post Trim and clips questions |
|
Hi all, my first post after recently purchasing a 2005 D3 S.....
I have just discovered a very wet drivers side carpet - the passenger side is bone dry and I don't have sunroofs. It looks as though a previous owner has had the interior trim off as there were no clips holding the triangular footwell kick panel in place over the A post electrics and only one metal spring grip/clip thingy on the tread panel.
Can anyone give me part numbers for these plastic and metal clips please? And where best to order them from.
Secondly, I am obviously now in the process of trying to find where the water is coming from, so any suggestions/methods to help find the source are welcome.
After a brief look, there are no tell-tale streaks down the front bulkhead behind the carpet in front of the pedals, in fact, the top five or six inches of the carpet is dry at the front and side of the transmission tunnel, it only seems to be wet on the right hand side sort of below the accelerator pedal rubber and lower - I've read posts on here about leaks from behind the A post exterior trim so it's maybe leaking in here as opposed to a screen leak?
With regard to this A post exterior trim - does it just pull off, and is there a knack to it? I've read the bulletin and it just says "Release the A-pillar moulding trim clips and remove the A-pillar trim on both sides of the vehicle" so do I just yank/prise the trim off (from top first or bottom?) and replace any broken clips? I believe the clips part number is DHB500-006, is that correct?
There are several posts about wet carpets with leaks from sunroof drains, but not really how people found where the stuff is getting in from elsewhere, I'm a tad too big to fit in the footwell while someone sprays the outside of the car with a hose but what methods have others used?
Finally, while I am on a roll, what's the best way to dry the carpet out?
If these questions are answered elsewhere on the forum, please point me to them, I didn't go to Specsavers so apologise in advance.

There is a post from Nasher where he found a gap in the body joint under the roof trim which we’ve also found in my dads d3, best bet is to pull the headlining down and then get someone with a hose and watch fro drops coming in MY2023 Discovery 5 R-Dynamic 3.0

I could be wrong, but if the trim clips on the outside A post arent replaced when the trim is removed, cant this cause a leak? I dont know if i have read it on here or just imagined it, I am sure someone will put me straight. Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey

Cheers for the info so far guys, I had a good look this afternoon, the headlining isn't damp at all so it doesn't look like the problem Nasher had with the seam in the roof, or the top screen seal, going to order some clips and take off the A pillar exterior trim (when someone tells me how to get it off!)
I also read somewhere on t'internet this afternoon that water can leak into the drivers footwell if the wing vent isn't sealed properly, is this true?
EDIT: I've found the trim clip parts and numbers at Advanced factors, going to order what I need in the morning.

JackNorris - did you simply pull it off though, and from the side, top or bottom?
