England 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 5 Seat Auto Java BlackDiscovery 3
Whats it Worth? Funny Spec D3

Thinking of selling our car privately or through PX. What would you think she is worth. A bit of a rare spec I think.
Owned for past 5 or so years and has been ultra reliable.
Base 5 Auto.
With air suspension.
Cruise control.
Steering wheel radio buttons.
Bumper fogs.
Side steps.
Mud flaps.
19" HSE alloys x 5
Privacy glass
Parrot CK100 phone kit
Roof rails
Full LR history mostly at supplying dealer.
80,000 miles - Just had 105k/7 year service at that LR dealer
12 months MOT
In good general condition bar the odd car park ding.

Have been offered £9k by dealer. Said they weren't interested in the extas so feel free to remove them. So wheels, flaps, side steps etc can come off.

Is £9k good. Could I get more privately? It really is too good a car to think it would be just sent to auction. I assume the 5 seats is a big negative although I liked it as it meant we didn't always take my car when going out with friends?

Very reluctant to let it go but I think the next couple of years may be expensive. It has been that reliable that surely something will have to go on it soon!!

Thanks.

I'm no dealer, but as we head towards summer and with the possibility of a fuel tanker strike in the near future, that price doesn't seem unreasonable for your uncommon spec. and the need to turn a few quid on the deal. That's not to say that you wouldn't find a private buyer to pay five figures, but bird in hand etc. It's worth noting that recently, some members' cars have been slow to sell on this site, despite what I consider to be keen pricing.

Is it a base 5 or a commercial with seats added like many have had this would explain the air suspension

No, defo out of the factory as a 5 seater with auto and air suspension. Somebody didn't want the extra seats! Probably when new to spec it up as it is, would have cost more than a standard 7 seater auto.

IIRC, Highways Agency D3s were base 5 seaters with air suspension, so such a vehicle may well have been a reallocated fleet sale.

The little car icon reads that yours is a 2005.
From what I have seen lately or rather been told by
people who are trying to sell 2005 Disco's is that hardly anyone is interested.
Some go for 8 or 8.5k, with some decent specifications on them.

When you look on Ebay and search for a D3 MY2005
out of the 74 completed listings only 7 sold.

2005 HSE 91k for £13k
2005 HSE 116k for £13k
2005 HSE 83k for £12k
2005 High spec S 112k for £10.5k
2005 S 120k for £9k
2005 S 120k for £8.5k
2005 S for £8k

If a dealer offers you 9k without you taking another car of them, that's not too bad
considering the current state of affairs.
You could sell your extras individually either here on the forum or online or locally.
I guess the wheels, flaps and sidesteps would see another £500 on the price easily.

In conclusion, basically it comes down to how desperate you are to sell.
The dealer offers you a quick and easy £9.000 for your car, whereas you could
spend weeks if not months trying to sell it on eBay or Autotrader without success.
But perhaps you will sell it for a price you are more content with, who knows.

Choices, choices...

Thanks for the research there Hess, just what I should have done.

It is as a px against an E Class Merc 59 plate from a BMW dealer (a swapper they took in). That is a good price as well so the deal is pretty good on the "price to change". A bit of a complicated deal as the E Class is for my dad and I'm taking his C Class estate off him for the trade price the BMW dealer offered - are you following.... The C Class has a 3 year Merc service plan on it and 6 months warranty left so a good deal all around. I would have liked another grand for the D3 but as you say it could be hanging around for 2 months plus and I would miss out on the C Class then.

I'm gutted to make this decision, the D3 has been the best car ever over the last 5 years. Only ever been serviced and always passed MOT's. Just worried that there will be bits needing doing in the next 12 months which will be money better spent elsewhere.

Will be taking off what I can and will put on sale soon.
