Wheel alignment on early D3 |
|
Well what a day Had D3 in for a wheel alignment, dealer f ed it up last week, they set the toe on front to the rear specs told my a porkey that the camber could not be adjusted , lies
So it was late on Friday, mechanics needing to F off and I had just about had enough so I took it home and booked it in to someone who is compertent and cares about their workemanship
What they found was that the dealer had stuffed the adjuster cams for the camber on the front to the extent it was not possible to adjust and noted that the rear was miles out and had never been touched althouh I had got the dealer to do full alignments several times for uneven tire wear. MY05 and earlier need to be converted on the rear to adjust camber, this was not done on mine, Dealer should have done this to do a propper alignment.
Eneyway the short of this is I have taken the D3 to someone else who is well recomended and a LR enthousiest.
They are replacing the parts stuffed by dealer and puting it right I am just out of warrenty and this workshop is not LR approved so I will just have to pay myself but at least the job will be done properely
This sort of workmanship by dealers is so counterprodictive and gives LR a bad name, well enough said I have vented my spleen and the D3 goes on
Cheers

Hi Rob,
That Canberra Dealership seems to have a really bad name. Luckily, not all are like that.
Have you tried the service centre at Mittagong (I think)?

Hi BW,
Had no idea there was a LR place in Mittagong, Eneyone know the details of them ?
At the moment using a highly recomended non official LR specialist in town, so in the mean time I am going to see how they go.
Off on trip for two weeks this Saturday to central Queensland only 4 sleeps to go
Cheers

Should have taken it back to the dealer and got them to fix it free. The stuff up was done before warranty expired. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Caver,
Although you are correct, I did not need more stuff ups, when they had it , they replaced the EGR valves, lower steering colomn for the second time, front diff and shafts, other suspension stuff for clunking suspension and steering, they left loose the heat shields around the engine, made a botch of wheel alignment, and forgott to tighten the sump guard. On return home I discovered the heat shields missing bolts and hanging loose, I fixed that, but as I said in my orignal post wheel alignment needed to be done properly. So I had just had enough, that coupled with running out of time before going on a trip I did not wont to have the dealer stuff around for ages, the previous warrenty work took two weeks which was unacceptable.
If the steering and suspension issues continue which they have from new and if I can get LR to cover it as it was warrenty work not completed or poblem not fixed I may have to take it to Sydney, hope this is not needed.
Hopeing the the permagrin will outweigh the hassels with this car but the scales are starting to ballance now
Cheers

Hi Again Rob,
Unfortunately, I don't have details of the Mittagong service place. Hopefully, someone will step in with the info.
Re your D3: Please don't despair. I suspect that many of your issues are due to incompetence in the Canberra dealership. Now that your warranty has expired, you're free to select your own service centre and I expect your to be restored.

BW thanks, Today we found that the rhs lower adjusting bolt on the lower controle arm was bent and most probibly done by the dealer when they worked on the suspension bushes, this was everdent by hammer marks on the bolt, this now is replaced, and the wheel alignment done , caster and toe good but camber not perfect as ran out of adjustment, it tracks and steers well but are going to see how the tires fair before major investagation. Eneyway have run out of time as starting a trip.
I was impressed by the way these guys went about this job. Will sertionally continue to use them,
Cheers

Oh My Disco has a voodoo jincks on it, I am sure someone has toy one and is sticking pins in it
Went over it in preperation for trip, did interm oil and filter change, all good
Me thinks better check diff oil, rear fine Check front diff, it has just been replaced for leaking seals, ahhh chech it eneyway, WTF no oil put my plastic thingey in the fill hole, nothing, for .68 l it should be just down from the fill hole, so undoo the drain plug and a tiny bit dribbles out I think it only had the assembley oil in it
Rang the dealer, WTF is going on, so workshop manager comes out with oil and we flush it out, luckley no metal bits came out and refill it. To his credit he appoligised and said this should have never happened, and the diff will be covered for warrenty if something happens. He was away sick when the work was done and could not supervise the work done.
As the diff had not got hot and the little bit of oil that came out was not bad we thought it would be ok.
Had I not have checked the oil it would have colapsed and failed on my trip and stuffed our trip
So to all out there check everything, I am alwayse been accused of being anal about checking things but you have to especially in this town
Cheers

They should replace the Diff at their cost. The diff will be impaired by what they have done.
At least inform LRA of what ha s happened. They will investigate the dealer. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Jeez Rob,
What a thing to happen.
They really seem to be working hard to maintain their rubbish reputation.
I'm glad that you "caught it" hopefully in time.
