wheel wobble under braking

I'm just hoping for confirmation that the front discs and pads are most likely the problem. The 'wheel wobble' only appears to occurs after approx 30 mins of driving and under moderate to heavy braking from 60mph and over. It does not seem to happen in and around town or at lower speeds. The car is a 2011 D4 SDV6 HSE @96k which had replacement front discs/pads at 29k and rears at 49k, both front and rear pads have been changed since then. Any thoughts ??? Thanks Russ

Hi Russ,
Could also be worn bushings in the front lower suspension arms. At your mileage it would not be surprising. Usually it is the rear bush that give up first.

Lower arm bushes definitely confirmed if you're having clonks on road bumps and hard braking.

Thanks Guys, having read lots of previous comments on the subject I have considered that it may be the lower arm bushes however if it were them would I not get the 'wobble' all the time rather than only being noticeable once the vehicle is running 'hot' ?

the dreaded wheel wobble under braking tends to be more pronounced under light braking from high speed, once braking hard the caliper "grabs" the disk and the wobble tends to subside. That was the effect from all of my brake disc woes.

I tried it again today and you are right Al about the wobble starting firstly with light breaking which I had not noticed before as I mostly tried to push through it with heavier braking that only worked once the pads gripped the disc and the speed came down. So would you lean more towards replacing the front discs and pads as the first option ? That is something I can do which will save me some' wonga' as there are some timing belt replacements coming up on the horizon !

Are you saying you have already got 67K out of the pads/disks currently fitted. Shocked

Would agree with al cope that pads/disks would be first option having also experienced this problem several times over the years. Thumbs Up

Thanks for your responses. I re-checked the paperwork I was given and also spoke the local LR stealer who did the last 2 services and found that the rear discs/pads went @ 29k, front pads only @ 30k, rear pads again @ 55k and front discs/pads @ 71k. So the fronts have only covered 25k. I took the car out today on a 150 mile run and it definitely seems to be getting worse, even just shutting off the throttle I could feel it starting and when having to use the brakes the wobble was quite severe until it all came under control. I think I'll take the front wheels off and check the discs with a micrometre to see if they are an even thickness all round, also check the bushes for excess movement.

you need a dial gauge to check for warping, IE the disc dose not run true...
but if it wobbles without braking probably suspension wheel /related.
