Wheels rims
Hi
May i pick ur brains plse, I’ve yet again got a flat tyre, is leaking on the tyre rim
Had this around 4/5 times where I’ve had to get the tyres removed and remounted
If I don’t use the disco for a while I get the issue , am wondering if the rim can become pitted
Tyres are cooper AT/3 , over a period of time it’s done it on every rim
Trying to think of a solution, maybe getting the tyres dismounted and using an abrasive wheel to clean up the inside of the alloy rims
Pics are where I started cleaning up the spare rim, looks a lot better after using the abrasive wheel
can’t really think of anything else apart from using an abrasive wheel, would anyone be so kind to recommend a paint to spray inside the rim please to protect it or can I just use ordinary wheel alloy paint

Also check the valve seat for corrosion, that was my problem with a slow leak.

Normally due to corrosion on the inside of the rim, sand smooth and have the tyre re mounted

Best to have the wheel re-finished (when you can get somewhere!).
Once the Aluminium is exposed, the corrosion will leach under the tyre bead, and you'll have the same issue again.
Get your wheels repainted properly, I had mine done last Autumn for about £200?

I had this on a previous car. Corrosion build up on the inside of the rim. A good rub down on the inside sorted it and it was good for years after.Kev

I’ll do my spare and indeed get the others done properly , just annoying when it’s the start of the day and find a flat

Just so I can get my spare done, will rub it down but then is ordinary wheel paint ok to use please
Have found the drill ceramic wheel smooths the rim down and quite effective

On my last car it was the valve hole also. It had those alloy TPMS valves and it caused galvanic corrosion. On one the valve actually broke at a roundabout and my tyre deflated in about 10 seconds. Most embarrassing.012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

Many thks, blimey I bet that was a shock , haven’t got the TPMS fitted
However did buy a tyre monitoring system from FoBo , must get round fitting it
Also think later on I’ll buy a set of wheels, at least then will make life easier with this set and have some winter tyres

Managed to spray my tyre and found the slow leak on the rim
So thought I would try something , put the tyre compressor and inflated it to 50 Psi , still leaking
Turned the disco round and made sure the leak was at the bottom so i assume the weight helps just pushing the tyre bead in
It stopped leaking and even took pics before someone is sent round with a straight jacket
I’m now going to crawl back on the sofa and that’s ridiculous how much that hurt my joints , hopefully I won’t get told off, snigger
Hopefully it will just hold long enough until I can get the spare wheel rim sorted in the first post

From the looks of the damage to that part of the rim, there's a good change the alloy there has become porous, or even has a small hairline crack.
My suggestion would be to look for a replacement, which would be cheaper than a proper refurb (not just a fill and paint job).

Think ur right and indeed don’t know the condition inside the rim
Planning to clean up the spare wheel rim I’ve got in the first post as a bit of a project and seeing I’ve got plenty of time on my hands
Thought of either spraying the rim myself or getting it powder coated
Did browse ebay for some other rims, it alas couldn’t really tell there condition apart from buying a new one
Rim by the way is 17 inch

If I manage to get the leaking wheel off, Lay on it down on the ground , then deflate it
then do u think If I get a piece of Scrap wood (4x2) put it on the side wall , Then hit it with a hammer do u think the sidewall would go in enough to get the bead off the rim Plse
So if I could push it in far enough to Then clean that area that’s leaking with a Dremel then re Inflate, would the sidewall go back onto the wheel rim bead please with re inflation
Maybe putting some washing up liquid on the bead to aid it going back

Try and knock the bead off completely. Will make cleaning the rim much easier
To reinflate, its as simple as blowing back up as normal. Watch for the bang as the bead pops back on

Plus great tip ref only doing one side at a time , have small sanding discs along with all other bits for the dremal So shouldn’t have a problem cleaning that small area up then re inflate it
Better ensure my dog isn’t around when I pump the tyre back up
Otherwise she may herself

hitting it with a hammer probably wont work as the rubber will just bounce. You need something with a constand push to break the bead. I have seen someone jack their car up, put the tyre underneath with a block of wood on the tyre next to the bead and under the car suspension, and lower it down, using the weight of the car to brek the tyre bead. (if that makes sense)
