Yes, thanks Al. I didn't appreciate the potential problems with various things. But I've been honest with both LR and the Insurance and it's all sorted now. Alloys on/off/on/off....... Rolling Eyes

2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Manual Zermatt SilverDiscovery 3

Hi guys, only been on the forum a while and dont really look at it until something goes wrong....when it has the forum has been a hive of info Very Happy

The wife has a d3 tdv6 s with the 5 spoke 17" rims on, she finally needs new front tyres which is caused a few headaches trying to source them at a decent price. I decided to buy new rims off ebay that had mint tyres on them so bought without realising pre 06 FFRR 19" 6 spoke wheels!!!, I realise that I need different wheel nuts and that the wheel doesn't fit flush against the hub.........would it be a safety risk or issue with rubbing when lowered if I were to add 5mm spacers as with these they will go on with approx 2mm clearance..

Sorry for the long winded post but as you can see I dropped a massive bo**ock by not checking here 1st Sad

cheers in advance

I tried the pre 06 FFRR 19's on mine, and they fouled the brake caliper, although one of the forum members has them on his, and said they were OK. If the wheel does not fit flush to the hub, then basically it doesnt fit, so you cant drive with it like that. Spacers might push them out clear enough, bit they still need to sit on some of the hub center lip, or they wont center up properly, and will run like they are out of balance.

Yes, you are right, you'll need a set of the smaller wheelbolts, which arent cheap (about £80 quid for a set if I recall). I'm not sure its worth it. Might be better to find some cheap RRS 19's rims (as these also use your original D3 wheelnuts), and use the good tyres you've got now and swap them over. 19" RRS rims come up often on fleebay (and on here), and dont fetch very high values, especially if they got worn tyres on, and could well be not much more than a set of smaller wheelnuts and spacers will cost you, without all the messing about.

Thread revival, I know...

...but I thought I'd mention (maybe I missed it in here) that if you have the 4.4L V8 you must use at least 18" wheels, due to the V8 having larger brakes over the 4.0 V6.

Just thought I'd mention that. Thumbs Up

Obviously there are many, many more wheels from older LRs that do not fit but these are the common ones that people ask about as they are cheap on ebay. No 16" wheels will fit, nor will any Disco 1 or 2, RR Classic, P38 RR or pre 2006 FFRR (AFAIK).

The top set of 18" rims look very similar to these that I was just about to buy for my RRS on fleabay.

Am I to read that these wont fit my 2007 RRS?

Similar but not same, they are fine for D3/RRS.

Hi All

Help needed on alloy dilemma - not sure what to do!!

I fell in love with some 19" alloys exactly the same as these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Set-Four-19-Alloy-Wh...768wt_1137

They are new 2010 Range Rover Vogue alloys. They had the right load index for a disco and everything. Trouble is, I bought them, had my brakes done and asked the mechanic to put the new ones on. Unfortunately, he reckoned they didn't fit and said that I wold need some spacers and even then he couldn't guarantee they would work? Is he right? I thought the 1922 range rover and disco3 alloys would all be the same?

What do I do? Sell them on and give up? Is there a way round it? Are there other 2010 19" alloys range rover or discovery 4 that will fit??

Please help me!!

Point Shape

Wheel offset is different

If they are these

Then spacers are needed

I have a 2005 V8 and the brakes are a little different then on a TDV6 and my rims fit see a few posts back.
There is however very liittle clearence between the outher side of the brake caliper holder and the rim. So little that if it is dirty or a little rusty it touches the rim. But some sandpaper when changing to rims is enough to solve the problem.

I am after a set of 19" rims for my D4 winter tyres and very nearly bought a set of RRS rims on hebay until it was pointed out to me that these would have a max weight rating of 860 (if I remember right) but the D4 (and D3) requires wheels with a greater maximum weight of 940 due to being a heavier car.

Your comments would be most welcome.

These Wheels I take it

They are NOT intended for use on the D3 due to the points you raised, but I pay the bill if it goes wrong.

RRS rims are usually 900kg rating (I've never seen any lower than that), and D3 rims are generally 940kg. A lot of us run RRS rims without any issues. In fact the tyre load rating for the D4 is lower than the D3. Just stay away from cheap chinese copy rims and you'll be OK.

Nice gear MacLeod!
thanks Al for the info. Thumbs Up

After my post I found the 500-ish pages of the antithesis of this thread title which filled in a lot of detail (and took hours)
