Now that I have four LR ones perched on the top of my rack, I'd definitely recommend going for four little ones tucked in underneath, like DiscoDunc has. Less chance of them being swiped off by a low branch or a 6'3" height barrier. Dunc's are on a frontrunner rack, but I'm sure they could be squeezed in somehow on a LR rack.
For the A bar, I still think the LR ones look the best. If they don't provide enough light then just upgrade the bulbs (and the fuse and the relay...)
