This started a few weeks ago as a very quiet rushing/whistling noise which was inaudible unless stationary and no radio but is now loud enough to be heard ( also I'm guessing I'm tuned into it ) at driving speeds without the radio on. I have manually changed all the variations of air direction to no avail, anybody else had/cured/heard this as its starting to be annoying, turning the fan speed up seems to drown out the noise

Thanks for that i did check pollen filter it was ok. Then i serched the forum and cam across this which Gareth wrote-
Quote:I have become aware over the past few weeks of a whirring/droning noise that is directly related to engine speed.
It is most prevalent at low speeds when it is probably the most audible noise the car makes, and is always there, even at idle. I always thought it was the torque converter, but it has started to become more noticable and gets on my nerves a bit now.
By chance, I was sitting traffic with the radio off, and I felt a bit chilly so I hit the OFF button on the air con. Lo and behold the noise completely disappeared! I switched the air con back on by pressing the button again, noise comes back, etc.
It's just same as what mines doing. After reading up on it my moneys on it being Air conditioning compressor or the pulley bearing on it. Anyone got any expirience with this?
