| White Spirit.........What? |

Having 'forgotten' to put the Freel2 on Fuelly, I have just added the D4, to start monitoring fill ups etc. Mainly this is for my information when i tow the tin tent.
If you haven't been on there, there is a 'Top Tips' box that scrolls through various tips.
I was aware of adding 2 stroke to a full tank, but what about white spirit?
Here is what is says:
White Spirit
In a diesel car pour 0,75L bottle of white spirit (uk) into the tank 20-30 miles before filling up (cheapest in Home Bargains). White spirit is virtually the same as Liqui Molly Diesel Purge but for the fraction of the cost. Helps with a rough idle and improves spray pattern of the injectors if they are gummed up.

Personally, I would do nothing that might jeopardise the diesel’s ability to lubricate the high pressure fuel pump’s internal surfaces and risk metal to metal contact. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

A while back there was a hugely lengthy post re. the benefits / or not of 2SO being added to the tank - I suspect this post will not be as long - I have no idea about the ability of white spirit as a lubricant, but I know it can shift oil based paint - you do the maths

I've been using this https://www.dipetane.com/ for a few years now, I can't praise it enough to be honest. The reason I started on it was sometimes under load I noticed a little smoke from time to time. Once I added about 300ml to a full tank fill up, problem immediately disappeared. One additional benefit is that I no longer seem to have any clogging of the MAP sensor. Everyone on here knows how badly this can get clogged and requires cleaning between services. So far it has been almost spotless every time I check it. I don't do big miles, so only need a quarter tank fill up of diesel each week. Equally I only add 150ml of Dipetane which is more than necessary. White spirit is a solvent that will eat rubber and seals, try some on a cloth and clean a wiper blade with it.

I may be wrong but isn't the MAP sensor in the air intake prior to combustion whereas anything added to the tank doesn't get introduced till the cylinders...

Yep you're correct, the MAP is in the air stream prior to combustion. Unfortunately so is the previously combusted recirculated gas from the EGR's, and it is this gas and gunk that seems to be reduced thus the effect on the MAP.
