A whooshing 'n a buzzing noise ....?

Our D3 has developed a strange kind of whooshing and a mild buzzing noise. Its only apparent at certain engine revs. At first I thought it sounded like the noise of a pressurised gas escaping through a split, so I suspected a blown exhaust of possibly air suspension. No lights on dash board though. On further reflection though is sounds more like a light metallic buzzing noise and I suspect a loose baffle in the exhaust. The sound is hard to pin down, but it seems to be from under the vehicle, towards the rear. Has anyone had experience of this before and if so, what was the cause and solution Question

Sorted - having got a chance to have a good look of the underside, the problem was pretty obvious. The edge of the heat shield above the exhaust pipe was touching the rear propshaft. A shiny band around the otherwise dark black painted prop shaft gave the game away. Very easy to gently bend the heat shield away from the prop shaft and a test drive confirmed that the problem was fixed. The heat shield didn't look as if it had been knocked at all, so I suspect that when it is installed it sits very very close to the rear propshaft. Worth bearing in mind if your hear some strange noises from down below Shocked Wink .
