Whooshing sound on acceleration - Turbo?

Hi.

My 2008 DISCO3, 50K, has just started making whooshing noise when accelerating. Matching the use of the throttle. Sounds worrying. I've done a a few searches and fear it may be the turbo on its way out or air escaping from somewhere, cracked pipe etc.

The car was blanked a couple of years ago.

I've booked it into whites in Edinburgh but would be good to give them the heads up on any advice received from anyone.

Many thanks.

Mark

Thanks for the feedback.

Philip, Re the cross over pipe.

Any idea of costs before going to garage.

The split in the cross over pipe, did it do further damage. How long did you drive it for before getting it fixed?

thanks again.

I think I drove it for a thousand miles or so, while I investigated what it was. It didn't cause any other problems, although depending which side the split is, it can be very near some fuel lines going to the high pressure pump Shocked

By the time it went in, I was getting restricted performance. I looked at the pipe afterwards and there was a split in the flexi section, about an inch long. It would only have got worse.

I think (it was a while ago) that the pipe was £400 ish and fitting about the same. LR will have the body off to do it, my indy didn't do that, but loosened the gearbox to drop it a bit. It is a pig of a job, and he had a bit of trouble doing it.
