Temperature gauge

I'm having an issue, or the car is I guess. My 1st with my Disco 3... (sort of)

Recently my engine temperature gauge in the instrument cluster stopped working. It's below the cold line. As a result, I think, the car believes it's cold and so acts as if the choke is on and is in warm up mode. The throttle response is odd, seems more direct, but the car feels very odd sometimes accelerating for no reason (manual transmission) especially on downshifts. The errors are:

Airbag
U0300-55 (AC) Internal control module software incompatibility - System programming failure - is not configured
B1A55-14 (2C) Crash record output circuit - General electrical failure - circuit short to ground or open
( at 217882 km )

Engine TDV6
P0196-00 (6C) Engine oil temperature sensor circuit range/performance

Instrument Pack
U0184-87 (2F) Lost communication with audio unit - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
( at 220068 km )

I've also got the airbag light on, but I think it's unrelated and I've got a list of things to look at to solve that (yes, I searched!), and the the audio unit error has to do that the car came with a aftermarket head unit (bought the car used), not really worried about that one. No idea about the AC error, but whatever. It's the Engine oil sensor I'm worried about... any input on other errors also welcome, though.

Anyway, dealer said it was the coolant temperature sensor... changed that, car is the same. I insisted on changing the oil temperature sensor, they changed it, no go, car is the same. Now they want to change the instrument cluster which as you might guess, is quite expensive.

Any other ideas before I go the expensive route? Crying or Very sad

If i was you id stay away from dealers for basic tasks. just found this thread https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/help-instru...nt+cluster were a chap says you can send it off. Do it yourself.

Be handy if you could borrow an instrument cluster to see if that fixes the problem. Or find the multi meter values that the gauge should read if servicable.

Thanks for the reply. I managed to borrow a cluster to test tomorrow. If problems disappear I'll know the dealer is right.

The story keeps going: dealer managed to get a cluster from another D3 to test and the problem didn't go away, so not the cluster.

They're now going over every wire and connection to find something wrong: a shorted wire, burnt, bad connection, disconnected, etc etc. Rolling Eyes

I dont mind paying for fault finding, just hate when they change stuff and want to charge you. Next i would plug in a temp sensor and drop it in a jug of hot water. I had brand new OEM sensors not work twice on my audi. Always worth buying geniune sensor in the coolant ststem. One step nearer! Thumbs Up

Got the car fixed. Ended up being an oil pressure switch located at/on the sump, part number 1316119. No errors anywhere (IID tool included) so it was a trial and error.

Process was:
error in the oil temperature sensor, iid tool indicated negative live temperature read outs. Changed part 1359056.
Car remained the same but no errors now.
Dealer changed part number LR041442: LC temp sensor.
Car remained the same.
Dealer tested different instrument cluster to rule out cluster failure.
Car remained the same.
Dealer chenged part 1316119, car back to normal.

So there you are. All's well that ends well. Next problem... Thumbs Up
