Why?

[rant] Why do we bother building 3 lane motorways in the UK and no Censored Censored seems to want to use the inside lane Evil or Very Mad . I like the French idea, sit in the middle lane you either get cut up or flashed of the road but you soon learn not to in the inside lane. Thumbs Up

They have just spent millions of £'s changing the 2 lane section of the M4 north of Cardiff from 2 lanes to 3, what was the point and no one uses the inside lane.

[end of rant[/]

Now lets not confuse the Welsh, its obvious the are only used to tracks and Sheep , spending ALL that money on the M4 and then put signs up in MARTIAN language. Its a godsend we can return to the fatherland for free, but a joke to pay to bring normality into the land of the sheep Wink

We should have the same system as the US, undertake when safe.

Works around the M4/M25 as soon as you get past Reading without issues.

The US don't have a system. Having had the joy of living and working there for a number of years, we're amazing drivers by comparison.

Having also lived in Germany for many years, those guys get my vote. If you're in an outside lane going slower than someone who is going faster, you move. There's a bit of flashing of lights, and tail-gating and true, when they crash no one walks away, but they do behave on motorways and don't block lanes.

I have done same in a couple of states and never had an issue. Much more courtious on the roads and traffic flows a lot better

Ok, this has been in remote areas such as Minnesota, North Carolina etc . Do admit around the areas of DC its a little different

The American's can even eat ice-cream, put on make-up and still get around Rolling with laughter

I too admired and thought it was OK to undertake in the States until I was stopped by the highway patrol for it recently. Seems there aren't many States where it's legal to do so... it's just that everyone does it - Maybe we should just start doing the same over here? - Once 80% of drivers accept it, then everyone will think it's legal anyway!

It should be the law that everyone drives for a week somewhere in India. After that NOTHING will ever upset you again

I use the inside lane a lot. Just no fecker will let you out in the half mile leading up to the slow-moving crane.

Another favourite is when a 3 goes down to a 2-lane. Just at the restriction, some clown will pull out from the inside lane.....

I love watching this - can see it coming a mile off. Why others can't is beyond me Confused
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

China is not much better. In the last two years or so I've been travelling there, the increase in cars is a massive jump but the quality of driving is appalling. At night they either drive with every single light attached to the car switched on so you have rear fogs, front main beam, hazards, spots, everything or they drive with no lights on whatsoever "to conserve energy".

The 'private' taxi's are often a mini-van with crates for seats........ (qualification for being a taxi driver is "I have a car" - if you ask at hotel reception for a taxi they will invariably phone a relative or a friend of a friend not a taxi firm. 60klicks in a taxi costs about £8, a 'private' car is much the same but without a receipt or liability....)

However buses are OK and a 60km journey into Beijing costs less than 80p on a modern, air-conditioned coach.

What's a motorway? Nearest 3 lane carriageway to me is over 150 miles away Big Cry

Loads worse towing a tintent, you've no chance of being let out into the middle lane to pass anything. Oh how I look forward to our annual Easter trip to the Lakes Shocked All other trips tend to be North or West of Aberdeen where a crawler lane is seen as major progress.

do Oz still have "passing law", were it is/was an offence to be in an outside if no one was in the inner lanes?
