experience with Michelin latitude cross.. OPINIONS PLEASE!

It seems that little has been said about this tire on this page....
Do you think there is any special reason? Do you consider it a bad choice? ....
I would not want to be wrong as with the GG, in really I always wanted the Pirelli Scorpion ATR but now.... NO with reduced speed rating ( now is only T in 18" Evil or Very Mad ) Big Cry Big Cry

.... Therefore opinions or experiences with this Michelin Latitude Cross would be very grateful.

thanks and regards !

They've been on my radar for a while now. They are only available in the 255-60-18 size for D3's or those or have 18" Compomotive rims on their D4's, which isn't a popular size.

The other reason, is that as the Pirelli ATR is so well proven and brilliant, why take the risk in buying anything else?

Hi,

I had them on my Discovery 2 in size 255/55/18.
Good on road. Good on snow, decent on mud. A good all rounder. Not extreme I would think as an all terrain. Once I hit a rock with front wheel at very very low speed (10km/h or so). Side wall got a big blister that subsided few kilometres later. So not a tough off road tire.

Hi Ruben.

Did you get these in the end? I'm on GG AT's at the moment but looking for 2 new front tyres. These are one choice but, as you say, very little information on them.

I don't do full-on off roading (I wish!) so something for an occasional track or mild green lane but with nice road manners would be good! Maybe the Wrangler All Weathers?!

Thanks

Hi Parmenian

Cannot comment about them on the D3 but the wife had them fitted to her FL2, they felt sturdy on the road in dry and wet weather, the main problem was they wore down quickly, think she got just over 12k out of them before they hit 4-5mm and then we pulled them off. Would I have them on the D3? No, the D3 is another ton heavier than the FL2 and the tyre size of the FL2 was 235/65r17 so not much smaller than the D3, I personally think the tyres would not last long at all.

Cheers Chris.

Too good to be true then? That’s a real shame. Back to the drawing board then.

Think they wore quickly because Michelin use a softer compound so it helps it grip better but the flip side of that is the life expectancy of the tyre.

I am looking to put some new tyres on mine in the next week or so, mainly road but like you off road/tracks/green lanes now and then and like quite a few on here I am heading down the GG AT3 route, they do not seem to be too aggressive but have all the qualities I am looking for, I did have duratracs on previously 35k in two and half years, when I checked the wear rate last week prior to selling the D3 fronts were on 6-7mm & rears were 7-8mm, think they start at 10mm.

The Goodyear Wrangler AW that you were on about are ok, think they come with 10mm tread depth, I did some off road training when I first picked my D3 up and it had them on, about 4mm all round and to be fair it went everywhere I wanted it to go without getting stuck, didn’t put new on as got a good deal on some different tyres and the Goodyear’s were £180 ish per tyre back then.

The GG AT that you have on, I put them on for roughly a year but pulled them off and sold them, fronts dropped to 5mm in that time, don’t know why, suspension all ok, not over/under inflated, 4 wheel alignment done, they seemed to tramline, the noise was really bad and everyone on the whole face had a split in the centre running the full way round the tyre ( other members reported same too with picture ) so decided to get rid and stick the duratracs on,

The GG AT3 has a softer compound, so don't expect high mileage. See here:https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic114610-60.html

I'm sticking with Pirelli ATR's, which are perfect for my use. Thumbs Up

Got these on the wife's X-Trail. Very good for that vehicle.

Not suitable for D3 as they don't meet the required load rating (IIRC).
