Hi
my dad has stop start on his jag, he thinks it's just great, when it works. majority of the time, we think not enough charge in battery as it does not activate.
personally, i hope they never fit it, and if they do, we can turn it off.Cheers

Erm....none?
Why would it cause rear-end shunts? The system will turn off and on the engine well within the time it takes you to react.
It is pretty much instant and completely unintrusive when actually stopping and starting at traffic lights for example.
Unless of course you have an automatic like cooperman17 - this is the reason why most manufacturers have only implemented it on manual cars at the moment
Saying this, I must admit that, like most people on here, I've never liked the idea either

It is always possible to activate or deactivate the system - on every car that I've seen it fitted to. I don't suppose it will make much difference to most people on here, but I wonder what the current generation of cars with stop/start will be like in - say 10 or 12 years time, they're fine when they're shiny and new but after the battery, starter and flywheel (starter ring) have been doing maybe 10 or 20 re-starts per journey rather than just one they're bound to be getting a bit "ragged"?

I had a Freelander courtesy car with stop start on - it worked perfectly all the time I had it, and it was no problem at all getting used to it. And you can always turn it off

Clive - the starter, battery, alternator and flywheel etc are all generally beefed up on cars with stop-start.
Whether they are beefed-up enough is another matter, but the system "apparently" won't affect reliability.2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG
