Winch Failed me today - HELP |
|
I took the day off and spend some time with my brother doing a 4x4 trail today. 1/2 hour after doing a wade through water up to the bottom of the front lights we decided to test the G4 WARN winch fitted the the Disco. To my disappoinment it was "DEAD" not even a little indication that it was 'alive'. On my way back I phoned LR dealer where they installed the Winch and was told that the solinodes could be wet which could cause and earth 'leakages' somewhere. OK so after a long drive back and everything nice and dry I tried again... no LUCK. Will take it back there sometime this week...
Any guess as to what is up?

Well the dealers 'explanation' is horse for a start....
When you plug the winch controller in, you should get an audible 'clunk' from around the battery area as the primary contactor pulls in, if not, then it won't work... If you do, check that the winch +ve & -ve is connected properly

Check the wiring to the controller socket (and they've given you the right controller!) from memory, the blue & white should be connected together when you plug the controller in to pull in the solenoid / contactor and enable the winch

Took it to the dealer today. They spent 2 hours before identifying the problem as a poorly fitted solinoide box where the one where was soldered on and was done realy bad and ended up breaking off prob. due to vibrations. Anyway, while they had it open the connectors at the remote unit was cut, soldered and then sealed by heated plastics sleaves to prevent water creating problems.
Bottom line was bad installation originally, but had to give it to them I watched them work and they did a pretty good job fixing and sealing the unit and the wires, new crimps and solder.
