Winch Solenoid & RC Box Location
Best location in a D3?I'd like to keep the spare stowage area on the LHS engine bay for an auxiliary battery.
Fixed to the back of the crash bar within a watertight box with glanded connections ?
Comments or experiences welcome.

That's the location for the LR winch kit, could also use the diagonal bars behind the grille dependent upon the size of the box, otherwise the big space in the bumper below the RH headlight. done plenty of wading in mine and there are no water of mud stains behind that area of the bumper

Thanks Iain.
I was thinking behind the crashbar (directly behind the winch) but needed some sane confirmation
I'll have a a look at the RH location when I have the bumper off aswell
Cheers.

Yep as 10 said ..best place i found .
Only downside is you have to remove the bumper to get to it ..but it doesnt take long once you have mastered it .
I had the original 2 solinoids in the water proof box , but i had some issues with them .Swapped for one of these Albright ones which are great .Also have the remote part in the box aswell.

I'll be using a synthethic rope though Iain , better to have a Stainless or Aluminium in this case , cast would be more abrasive on the rope ?

Yep, the cast ones are only suitable for steel rope although with steel I prefer a roller fairlead, Stainless ones are best for synthetic as the Aluminium ones can be damaged by grit on the rope and corroded by road salt

One last question , I've an allbright solenoid aswell. Is it necessary to house it in a waterproof box or is it a " belt n' braces " job ?

Found an alternative location for the solenoid ......
Removed alarm sounder form the spare battery box
Allbright solenoid comes with a moundting bracket on the rear
Bolted the solenoid to a piece of aluminium angle and the angle in turn bolted down to the two holes that orignally held the sounder housing in place

Drawback of this is that there's a lot of cable to be routed up to the soelnoid & spare battery.I got them all in bar one as I ran out of cable
