I've given up on the supplied clips.
For the side door shades, I found a reasonable substitute in a Shower Screen Seal from B&Q, with the seal part removed with a Stanley knife. Still have to stick it onto the window surround with the double sided 3M tape stuff of course (after copious cleaning with isopropyl alcohol .... but still ...

Also the rear tailgate shades, I havd these help in place discreetly with little pieces of small "pinch weld" door seals, attached to the tailgate trim panels around the window. Much more secure than the metal clips supplied.
