Finally I've got a crack in my screen, never been so pleased to take a stone directly on the motorway Rolling with laughter

After wasting an hour of my life, I have accepted a non Pilkington screen. Sometimes life is too short. Yawn

Had mine replaced about 5 weeks ago, Insurers use "Auto-Windscreens" and wasn't impressed but neither my insurer nor auto-windscreens wanted to know so won't be using either again, renewal can't come soon enough! Was replaced with in my opinion a sub-standard screen which doesn't seem to have heating elements right up to the bottom edges leaving about a 2 inch gap on the bottom at the left and right of it, can't remember if the original had a better coverage.

Main gripe is the heated elements "glisten" in the sun. Tempted to throw a brick through it when I renew !!

I'm definitely in the "Autoglass are useless" club !

They came to fix a chip on my RRS screen and ended up cracking the windscreen... but obviously not their fault... I mean the crack wasn't there when they started and was when they left.... never did get this resolved but will never use again...

They also didn't replace the clips when having the screen changed on my D4... huge noise front the front screen and saw trim lifting up... thankfully dealer resolved under warranty

After reading the above I have revised my judgement, I phone Esure and they said that I should get a Pilkington screen.

I must now phone autoglass and tell them, when they refuse, I need to ring Esure back.

Oh the joys! Rolling Eyes

I'm another member of Avoid Autoglass club. They've never manage to fix a piece of glass successfully on the first go over many years with different vehicles in different parts of the country.

After 40 years of motoring, have just got my first cracked windscreen.

Bad news is I've had the car for less than six weeks, and a new insurer for less than 2 weeks...... Whistle

Thanks for all the advice here - have ordered a new set of A post trim clips in case the fitter doesn't bring his own, and will hold out for a Pilkington screen

To complete the story, my new windscreen was fitted on Saturday afternoon, all good so far (Monday afternoon).

My insurer is Acromas, via Saga as broker. Their glass replacement is done by AutoWindscreens (Trifords Ltd t/a AutoWindscreens). Excess was £75. AutoWindscreens said that Pilkington is their main supplier

AutoWindscreens fitter arrived at agreed time on agreed day (though lead time was a week). Called me beforehand to tell me he was on his way. Fitted Pilkington Optikool screen as agreed - heated with rain sensor. Fitter used my genuine A-post trim clips as he said they were better quality than their usual ones. Tidy job, he even swapped over my Severn Bridge tag bracket which I'd expectted to lose

(I have no connection with any of these companies)

Pilkington

M1 bank holiday and a lovely 10” crack!
So are we all in agreement that as long as you get a Pilkington Optikool windscreen as the replacement it is identical in terms of specifications other than not having a Land Rover stamp?
That’s what Auto Windscreens have said - it will be heated, anti mist and rain sensor.
If that’s the case I’m not gonna fight to get LR OEM as I don’t see the point.

Pilkington Opticool is the correct screen, LR logo is present on factory fitted.

Only regret is that I forgot they took the scuttle panel out, I could have ordered a new one to replace the well scratched & faded one. New A pillar trims all round, old ones saved from a trip to the tip, and new clips. And proper LR screen too. Mr. Green Mr. Green

Just got to tidy up where the RAI was. She does look a bit naked without it.

Why was the RAI removed?

One of my dads pals came round tonight after having his windscreen done as he was concerned that the rubberised strip that buts up from the scuttle to the base of the windscreen now has a 3mm gap pretty much the way across it.

Mine is flush and tight to the screen as its never been changed. Should he be worried about it or return it for glueing as everything will just run down there?

Must admit, I dont know if there is anything important down there.

Had the same gap at the bottom, took it back and all fixed. Now I notice what looks like clear oil slowly running down from the top of screen in the vicinity of the mirror mount.Any one know where this originates from?
Definitely insist on new A pillar trims.Installer fitted new clips where the trim was undamaged but used sealant elsewhere.Lasted a while, but buffeting from oncoming road trains soon dislodged the trims completely.
