Windscreen trim came off on motorway.
The black trim down the side of the windscreen came off today going down the motorway. I only managed to keep it as it was captive under the bonnet. All the clips looked OK and nothing was broken so popped iyt all back together. A few minutes later it happened again. I then removed it and drove home.
Are these known to pop off at speed?
The windscreen was replaced a few months ago. Are the plastic clips design to be used once. i.e. they should be replaced when refitted?
Common issue if the vehicle has had a new screen and the fitters didn't replace the trim clips. You can get a kit containing all the clips from a dealer for a few beer tokens LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Thanks MrH - that is exactly what I was hoping someone would say !
The guy who fitted it handed me the new trims and said he had fitted the old ones as clips OK and did I want the new ones to use later. I said yes and they are in the loft so I will fit them both later.....

happened to me too. Trim clips from dealers the way to go. Leave it too long and the trim itself cracks, which isn't covered under extended warranty; I found out the hard way. Should have bought the bits and fitted it myself.

LR Assist
I had this after some warranty work on the door seal that had unbonded itself. The dealership never replaced the clips and the thing decided to unzip itself on the motorway as I was heading for a ferry. Called LR assist and they taped it down to the screen and the rest of the car as they didn't carry any clips on their van.
Lets say the dealership and I didn't see eye to eye on who should have done what when the warranty work was done.
Just had the screen replaced and the installers fitted all new clips (having asked specifically that they come out with new clips). They even refitted everything with new clips second time round when they came to fix a wind noise issue. I'm hoping that they will come with new clips again when they come to refit the replacement screen second time round as they failed to bond in the screen heating tapes.
I wonder if there is a full set of clips available as a pack from anywhere as it might be a useful spares pack to have. And LR assist might consider carrying one as well.
M4J17 good luck, hope the new clips hold.

Just happened to me today on a Motorway in Spain. First the offside which I attempted to reclip and then had to use strong repair tape to keep in position and then the nearside did the same about 20km later.
Vehicle is less than 2 years old and hasn't had the screen replaced.
Seems to be an issue regarding the clips I'd say...
Had that happen on mine. as far as I am aware it has never had a new windscreen. anyway just pushed it back on at the side of the motorway and it has not moved since

Not much one can do but as both sides went within 20km there is clearly an issue with heat, wind and speed. Doesn't look too difficult to fix but mine certainly have some failed clips on both sides.
