Windscreen Washers Not working

Windscreen Washers not working. Push stalk and the headlamp washers spray twice. They will not spray again if I keep pushing stalk, although wipers come on, so assume stalk electrics fine.

Next time I switch on the ignition I can get two more sprays from the headlamp washers, but no more on repeat push of stalk. This will repeat on switching off and on the ignition three or four times until nothing happens. Next day it will repeat.

Plenty of washer fluid, not recent frosts.

Anyone know what this is, or am I due an expensive visit to my local dealer?

Cheers[/list][/b]

Hi

No the rear washer does not work either. So I think that means that one pump broken and the other working.

Thanks very much

Check the fuse for the washers. You should uprate it with a 15A fuse.

Fuse 11 behind the lower lower glove box - i've had this a couple of times, but stay with 10amp fuses, the pumps aren't too bad at about £20 (None OE) or £30 for OE, but the are fiddly job as the front bumper has to come off!!

Sounds much more like dirt in the pipes feeding the windscreen-washer nozzles.

Easi enough to test/clear - remove the back clips on the insulation under the bonnect to get access to the nozzles, pull the pipes off the nozzles and then press the button to wash through any obstructions - if it persists you may have dirt in the bottle blocking the pump intake.

What he said Thumbs Up

I had this trouble a couple of years back, trying to use washers before the heated jets and engine warmth have had time to take effect on the bonnet jets overloads the pump cicrcuit and it blows.

Try very hard not to use them until the car is thoroughly warm - fuses are cheap but getting them out is a PITA.

Just replaced the fuse in my washers due to trying to work them while frozen Rolling Eyes .Landrover themselves issued a technical service bulletin to upgrade from 10a to 15a fuse in the washer circuit to prevent this happening

Thanks guys - had the same problem with my screen washers, quick check of the fuse and problem soon found.
might be worth noting - mine had a 15amp fuse in it and this had still blown - so despite the pump still protected by 15amp fuse (proven by the fact that my washers are now working fine with a new fuse) - but.....the problem can still occur even with the 15amp fuse in-situ - though the freeze we have just had was very very severe, so this might explain why it still blew the fuse.
I'm hoping now I've put some proper winter strength screen wash in that the jets don't freeze in first place!!!!!!!!

Worked for me. First time this problem in 12 years. Fuse 11 blown, presumably due to iced-up washers. BTW, headlamp washers are on a different circuit, so indicate the problem/solution if still working.

Have a similar issue - checked fuses ( btoh of them) and all are ok - not blown. Push the button (or pull lever towards me) and wipers go but nothing coming out of the washers - front back or headlamp. Washer bottle is full so I'm guessing its the pump/motor .

Any other ideas to check before i start taking the bumper off ?
