Looks like willow, it doesn't burn particularly well
Used to get loads of willow. Daughters boyfriend worked in Nottm making cricket bats.
They split up so that supply dried up lol

And this was splitting with only an axe, I shudder to think if it was with the hydraulic log splitter
Two days later and I'm still in pain and it's difficult to walk.
And before you ask, yes it did f hurt!!

Interested in where. you guys get your logs from! We moved into a lovely place last year and had a log burner, have an nice built log store (I will get pics later) but half of it is sticking out and needs a tidy.
Lots of it has paint on it too so I need to chuck them away (SWMBO wont let me burn it, fair shout) and a tidy up.
Most off mine is just general off cuts of wood and crap from around the garage. Where do you guys get these actual half trunks from (take that the serious way ) that you split yourself? Costly?

I get all mine mostly beech from the forest behind the house.
All those lovely storms each year usually bring down a few and it keeps me going.
In the 10 years I've been here, I've only spent on firelighters, never needed to buy any wood.
Planning it probably more important, usually have to be at least 18 months to 2 years in advance to allow the wood to season properly for a good burn.

So if a tree is down in a forest nearby.... we're good to chop it and keep it eh... My log store is tiny though So not sure I could season it for so long which is a shame! Just sick of buying some as it's hit and miss in terms of what is good and burns well and what doesn't. Most in that store has been there over a year already so a good sort will be needed!

A busy morning processing firewood via my 'syndicate' - me and a mate split this lot in about 2hrs. It had already seasoned for 2 years as big slices. The 7ton hydraulic splitter is a great bit of kit. Should keep me going until Xmas now especially with a bit of coal in the mix.
We source wood unprocessed or in big chunks of trunk etc. and do the processing ourselves.
