Is it worth getting Chipped?

I've seen a few guys on here recommend Dynochip for a remapping chip. It adds an extra 50hp & 60Nm Torque to my D4, which i'm sure is noticeable. Does anyone think it's worth it? Is the Fuel consumption much better? Does it cause issues to other area of the car?

I'm in the Bedfordshire area so if anyone knows of anyone else that would be great

Having mapped a few D4's myself, it makes a huge difference Laughing

Can't speak for Dynochip, never used one of their maps, but the Alive maps are night and day Thumbs Up

Before embarking on chipping don't forget to declare to your insurers, and get a quote for the amount of premium increase.

In my case it was proportional to the increase in power - 10% more power = 10 increase in premium.

If you don't declare any modification the insurers can, and usually will, refuse any claim.

chipped or remapped?

remapped by someone like Alive, then yes, if its "chipped" that used to be just basically overfuelling, it might have changed now but to my mind a proper remap is best.

A tuning box overrides all the safety parameters build into the PCM

A remap leaves all these in place, so the engine won't damage itself as a result of overfuelling

I'd back Alive Tuning. Certainly more acceleration and torque. Fuel consumption can be better but because you tend to use the extra 'oomph' it can remain the same. However, if you drive moderately the fuel consumption is better. I have just done a 113 mile trip at cruise controlled 68 mph and the lie- ometer was reading 34 mpg. So knock off 2-3 mpg and the consumption is reasonable. A week ago coming home from the restoration show along a section of M5 with a 50 mph speed limit I got 43 mpg on the lie - ometer. The BAS system is also highly recommended on this forum. You pays your money.....etc.

Hi

Many thks as I always wondered how they differed , funny enough I got a synergy ronbox for the D3 , had one in the FL 1 TD4

Know synergy have a good reputation

Fitted it for a little while in the D3 but then removed it when I read about crank issues , as I was worried for the what IF and didn’t want to put the engine in danger

For the short time I had it fitted did make a difference, pick up was better up hills

I'm also considering a remap (i've previously had many of my other non landrover cars mapped) is the BAS one just a generic map? Just seems a little expensive if that's the case. In the past I've had live custom maps (done on the rollers) for about the same kind of money.

I had a stage 1 remap & EGR delete done. Much nicer to drive with more power & less turbo lag. Just got back from an 800 km trip (MOSTLY hwy) & average 7.3 l/100 kms. Went to overtake a B-double, looked down & ..... lets just say she was moving Very Happy

Had my D3 done by Quantum tuning (rep 5 mile away from me) over 14 months ago - mainly as I had blanked my egr's after having issues. Had the choice of 3 maps economy, blue and red...
Had the delete and blue map this lists a 50bhp/80nm increase, and is one of the best things I've done apart from adding Zeon's. Economy is better if not heavy footed and power delivery smoother, it added £40 to my insurance premium which I'm happy to live with Thumbs Up

The EU6 models (those with Adblue) respond even better to a remap then the EU5 models
From the Alive dyno...
