And for anyone that wants to know what spun bearing sounds like:
Google translate will change it from Norwegian to English but sounds pretty similar.

Sounds like mine when the cam chain went. Shouldn't it be more knock knock and less chuff chuff ? If the bottom end had gone. Not that it makes any difference now

The interesting thing is that the rest of the engine is fine, so if you could get a new (and stronger) crank, you could rebuild the engine - yes?

It depends if the spun shells have damaged the block. If they have worn away the seat, then the new shells would be even looser!

Hi
Must admit never realised the 2.7 TDV6 Engines were fitted in so many different vehicles
Jaguar S Type
Jaguar XJ
Jaguar XF
Discovery III
Range Rover Sport
Peugeot 607
Peogeut 407 Coupe
Peugeot 407
Citroen C5
Citroen C6
Also looks like from 2012 they have done some upgrade to the engine , however this is a South Africa article which assume would be the same for UK ??

Changes have been made at a production level and all new engines manufactured since 2012 use a new bearing design. Dealers have been briefed on the procedure for any engine that experiences this issue.

Hi DM
Wow, you’d think they would have sorted this out by now
I wonder if companies that provide warranties are starting to exclude crankshafts
Out of curiosity Have u heard if anyone that’s suffered a snapped crankshaft and not had a warranty if JLR have ever honoured an engine replacement FOC , ie , up to a certain age/ mileage or simply not interested plse
Thks

Is there an auxillary belt tensioner missing in the picture ?

Feel like I am driving around in a ticking time bomb. My 2.7 engine sounds fine but when I think about going on a long journey I cannot trust it. LR inaction also forced my choice of a KIA Sorento over a new D5. 20000miles now and not one problem apart from a chipped screen. Still like the D3 but it has a 50mile travel journey radius limit. Its going for scrap if anything big fails. Wish there was a transplant engine you could put in.
