Ok I think I understand... may be...
As I seem to find it hard to find 'automative circuit breakers' in the uk to check on the specifications can anyone explain why automative versions have a bimetalic strip that doesn't heat up unlike the non automative strip .... do they have a fridge built in or is it suggested that an automative 50a strip is actually a 100a 'normal' (whatever a normal is....)

10forcash, again AUTOMOTIVE circuit breakers are NOT susceptible to engine bay temperatures and the graph you have there relates to DOMESTIC thermal circuit breakers, which are not designed to tolerate operating temperatures above room temperature, so why would you use DOMESTIC circuit breakers in an automotive situation?
One more point, why instruct anybody to go to the added expense of fitting magnetic circuit breakers when automotive thermal circuit breakers are excellent for this type of application? 2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

Mate it’s no picking sides, your asking legitimate questions.
ALL bi-metal circuit breakers heat up, this is the very nature of how they work. 2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

@DiscoDunc - I think in your case why not just replace the fuses for now, if they keep going there has to be a reason why, all a CB is going to do is save cost when it keeps over-pulling of the fuses Disco3 is now gone but not forgotten. Waiting for Disco6 with full aluminium construction weight reduction and hybrid engine...

I think you are right
Ive been ringing round loads of places and nowhere stocks them. Also I would need to blow a lot of fuses to recover the cost Duncan

As Drivesafe says, fuses & circuit breakers aren't comparable. They perform differently.
I find it hard to believe that CBs are difficult to find in UK. I would expect that any Autoelectrician would have them.
Best Wishes,
Peter

Ive tried quite a few places, including some companies that fit out recovery vehicles, police vehicles etc and they can get the smaller blade fuse replacement CBs, but not ones that attach to battery cables. a couple of places could get them but they where special orders in from USA, Germany etc. The cost of postage for just one would make it expensive and could take a few weeks, even if the supplier was prepared to sell just one unit.
For the time being it looks like I'll just have to buy a bag of fuses.
however, I'm at billing LR show this weekend so I might just find one there Duncan

Hi Duncan, got to agree with you. I have searched and searched the net but I can’t find a UK supplier of this type of circuit breaker.
Strange.
If I locate a UK supplier, I post up the info.

car audio suppliers like Car Audio Direct (Circuit Breakers) also usually have a good range at a decent price.
There is always the link to CAD I posted on page 2
Did you have any luck at billign DiscoDunc, or manage to find a breaker?
