Technical tyre advice needed after puncture
Hi all,
I have a puncture on drivers side rear caused by a screw in outer edge. i have been advised that it cant be repaired safely and my only choice is to replace.
i have Goodyear wranglers 6mm on front and 7mm on rear. all in great condition. i want to keep the Goodyears on.
question is, will i cause an issue if i put 1 new Goodyear on and have a tyre with 7mm tread on the other side? should the tyres be equally worn on both sides in order not to cause other issues?
Basically i am not sure if best to buy a new tyre or look for a part worn?
Advice needed.
Thanks in advance.1974 S111 SWB 200di conversion, rag top, bronze green. Known as Munch

I wouldn't worry about it at all. I've had all sorts of differing tread depths across axles (always same type) and never had an issue in 166k miles of happy(ish) motoring.

Wranglers start with 8mm tread so pretty close to new anyway

Unless others think differently!!
My old D3 was abused over 166k miles, 20 countries on 2 continents and tyres tended to be what had the best tread available on the car or in the shed. Or what needed used up, or was going to face aggressive off-roading where tread depth wasn't important, hence sacrificial. I never ran anything below 3mm and would try and get treads across an axle as close as poss but that wasn't always possible without buying new tyres, something I wasn't going to do with a shed full of part worn tyres.

that's even more depressing....1974 S111 SWB 200di conversion, rag top, bronze green. Known as Munch

There are specialist repairers out there, might be worth phoning around tyre places and see what they think.

yes, i think that's next move before spending circa £150.
i fitted these tyres in 2014 and have done 14,000 miles. 2mm wear on front is quite good.. 1mm on rear is impressive.
it could be worse...1974 S111 SWB 200di conversion, rag top, bronze green. Known as Munch
