Adding heated seats retrofit

Hi. Just wondering what I need to add heated front seats to my MY08 D3 XS. It already has manual leather seats I am hoping the heated pads are already there and I have aquired an updated hvac with the heated seat witches in it. Cheers

Or what do I need to look for to see of the pads are there ? Does the updated HVAC with the heated seat buttons need enabled with a faultmate do you know ?

Yes it will need enabling with some sort of tool, but you can easily check to see if the wiring is in under the seat if the heat pads are fitted just look in the seat connector and see how many wires/connectors are in the big socket.

Flack Thumbs Up

How many should there be, if heating is already fitted?

Here is what you are looking for regarding heated seat wiring, if you have heated tho..
The black cable that goes up the hole.. contains 4 wires if im not mistaken, and a connector futher in the picture, not visible in this pic.

Well, mine does look like that. Maybe I do have the basics.

Anyone know for sure what's needed to get then working?

Then the pads are there.. now look at the big multi connector under the seat..

You need to unscrew this 7mm bolt before removal of the connector..
these leads that I have connected here goes to the heating pads in the seat.

This was with a battery charger on and the heat on.

so if you have 12v osh here.. I think its all good.

Right. Are you saying that the two pins where the Multimeter is connected are the feed to the seat pads? And, if you use a battery charger you can feed those pins with 12V and the pads heat up?

What else is needed? I'll need a replacement HVAC panel with the seat heater buttons on. What else? Is there any new wiring needed behind the dash?

And someone (Geoff.) with a Faultmate.

So basically you are saying the seat pads and wiring should already be there and I just need to replace the HVAC and get it enabled ?

I retrofitted them to my car which was a hse

It didn't have much in the way of wiring and the pads were not there for sure. I would be surprised if yours were.

The wires from the footwell to the seat multiplug were the only wires in place. The wires from footwell to the back of the HVAC controller were not there.

Another forum member kindly sent me some drawings of where the cables were in the footwell and my mechanic managed to make up the missing loom

If you buy the heated matts they have the oem connector that go into the terminal under each seat.

The CCF didn't need to be changed to get them working. As soon as I fitted the new HVAC controller the high and low power indicators lit up.

I probably have the photos somewhere if you need them

Best Regards Ian

How did you install them? Do the seat covers need to come off?

@hids4u

Ian, your photos would be a big help of you can find them.

I'm looking to do this upgrade when I get SeatSurgeons to fit new leather covers. I'll ask them to put the heating pads in when they are putting on the new covers.
