Looking very nice NC500!

Put the injectors in on the left manifold, unfortunately the foam (I assume sound deadening) doesn’t fit very well due to the extra fixings on the manifold.

I’m not going to bother trying to modify the foam to fit so will be running it without.

RHS (drivers side for UK) is definitely tighter to get to the intake, but still doable.

Nice to see you getting along. Did you remove the coolant pipe beside the fuel rail, i still can not work out how it comes out.
Cheers.

Yes the rubber coolant pipe pulls off the top of the egr. Put a flat head screwdriver into the pipe from the top to break the seal if necessary.

Cheers Tyty, so you only removed the rubber pipe. Not the metal pipe it fits into?

Thats correct, then you should be able to remove the rear fuel rail pipe going to the HP fuel pump.

There is a metal bracket that secures the the fuel rail to the cylinder head, unfortunately this bracket hides two bolts for the intake manifold. From memory it also secures the top bolt of the egr valve.

I undone the top egr bolt going into this bracket (8mm i believe) and slackened off the other two egr bolts, removed the fuel rail, and then removed the bracket. You need the EGR valve slack in order to get to the bolts securing the backet!! bit of a pig to do.

Hopefully mine should all be buttoned up this weekend and full review on Monday Smile

This is the ratchet I use, the swivel head has been a lifesaver, especially working on landrover.

You can swivel it to make a V shape with a small extension bar/deep socket.

Otherwise something like this may be suitable? https://www.zoro.co.uk/shop/tools-and-mach...4MQAvD_BwE

Thank you appreciate the answer.

I will look at those.

Odd though your engine picture does not seem to show the upright coolant pipe blocking access to the nut mine has. Unless i am not looking at it right? (the red thing is a cork top to stop stuff falling down the hole).

Sorry for being a pain.

Yours looks tighter for some reason haha. You may need to undo the 3 bolts holding the egr to give yourself more room.

I don’t recall having great trouble getting that one out. Skinny 1/4” extension bar and socket.

Thanks Tyty.

I can not even get a socket on it which is the problem. Ahhhh, joy.

More progress at the weekend.

RHS manifold installed along with injectors, fuel lines, throttle body and egr pipes. Should be starting it up very soon Smile

Not the best photos, will get some more when complete.

Is this a take off for oil pressure gauge?

Yes it is, there is also a oil temp probe tee'd in just above the head.

I haven't got any photos of it on my phone but will take some later. I have put the gauges in the passenger upper glovebox. I don't trust the oil pressure light as that only illuminates at around 4psi so I would imagine the engine would be totalled before you would get any warning.

Not going to start the oil debate here, but using Mobil 1 ESP X3 0W-40, I get 1.4 bar (20 psi) on a hot idle where as before on the recommended castrol C1 5w-30 I was getting 0.8 bar (11psi) which I know is still within spec, however with a powerful diesel making peak torque at 1800rpm, I'd rather it be well above spec.
The Mobil 1 oil is also a very high grade oil that meets/exceeds lots of strict certifications.

(This is on an engine which has done 47k miles, and hoping to prolong its life!)

I know, I know!! I’m going to get shouted at by everyone but I don’t care - I’ve just retired and have a little more in the D4 slush fund than normal so I decided to keep my new aluminium intakes from oxidising in the long term. They are being coated by Zircotec - this is the masking prior to coating.
