Air suspension seems very hard when towing caravan ??? |
|
As the title suggests I have a grumble about the air suspension. Normal driving great, no issues. When I tow my caravan (on normal height setting) it feels almost solid. Now I know it compensates for the weight at the rear but is almost feels like it is bottomming out all the time. Does anyone know if this can be set or is this something I am going to live with??
Thanks for your time

Welcome to the forum
Can honestly say that when I have the van on the back I hardly notice that its there
The suspension on mine compenstes for the additional load without any problems.
I'd have a word with the stealer if its as bad as you say but I'm sure some genius will come along shortly with the solution.

Have you measured the tow ball weight? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

According to conventional wisdom (don't ask me from where ) you shouldn't exceed a weight of about 50 kg on the towball . Is you are over this , you can cuase handling problems

Hi,
Maximum tow ball weight for the disco3 is 350KG or 10% of the max towing weight.
Easy test to see that the suspension is working is to park it on flat ground with no van. Measure the rear wheel arch height from the ground, write it down. Add the caravan and go for a short drive, return to the same spot and measure the height again. It should be pretty well exactly the same. If not there is an issue and a visit to the delaer is in order.
The weight spec comes from the owners manual. No load equalisers required on air suspension models.
All the best

Load equalizers should NOT be used on air suspension D3s.

I tow 2500kg with about 200kg on the draw bar and the ride is as good if not better than with out trailer (no load level system of course). If you did use a load level system it could trick the air bags into having almost no air in them and bottom out. The air bags are great so suggest that as others have said that you check your nose weight, but this would have to be very high to cause a problem. Some of our roads are rubbish and the car glides over these so if nose wieght is right and no load level system go and see the stealers. Do not take life too seriously no one gets out alive anyway!
