Alternator confusion

Discovery 3 TDV6 diesel 2.7L

Alternator has packed in. Ordered the new one. Arrives. I take out old one. Compare. Wrong plug!

Mine has a three pin plug. The new one (recommended) has a single pin and different fitting.

Looks like a4.4 L petrol alternator.

So...what now?

Do I replace with a petrol 4.4 one or am I missing something??

Where did you get it from?
You need a Denso YLE500400.
Don't buy anything else, no pattern parts, only Denso. Thumbs Up

The 2.7 liter diesel, the 4.0 petrol and 4.4 liter petrol all have different alternators, unfortunately.

AFAIK they were originally all made by Denso. You can buy them through any Denso stockist, really. Other vehicles use the same alternators, too. I mean, besides your Land Rover part supply chain.

Whether this makes it cheaper or more expensive probably varies. In my case I was able to acquire and have replaced a 4.4 alternator in less than 24 hours and for significantly less.

For your (and other readers’) convenience I added LR part numbers to Denso part number conversion table below. In practice it probably doesn’t matter what you have currently as long as you acquire the correct one for your engine type.

2.7: YLE500200 (+ others) superseded by LR133249 equal DAN990 DAN987
4.0: YLE500240 (+ others) superseded by LR008862 equal DAN986
4.4: YLE500190, YLE500390 superseded by LR124960 equal DAN991

Hope this helps. Thumbs Up

So, got it exchanged for a DAN987 YLE500400. Was actually easy to install. Another thing checked off. Once I had the right tool for that fan!! Seems to be working nicely. Thanks for the tips.

For completeness, the list of alternators to model can be found here https://www.denso-technic.com/images/docum...e-2020.pdf on page 91.
