Auto gearbox reset
Hi everyone,
I recently owned a bmw 5 series, and could reset the gearbox without any equipment.
How do you reset the autobox on a disco 32.7tdv6 SE.
22inch overfinch wheels
remapped to 230bhp
Egr valves blanked
heated seats front and rear
touch screen sat nav, on and off road
rear roof mounted dvd player
Landrover side steps
Bi xenons
You need someone with a Faultmate or similar tool to do it.

I saw this posted on a US forum and I have no idea if it actually works as I have a FM, but may be worth a try as several follow ups said it did....
Quote:
My BMW 750i did the same thing and so did the LR3. In my case I reset the adaptive driving program (AKA Throttle Body Adaptation) and all went back to normal acceleration and no lurching. Most cars with adaptive driving will encounter this problem at some time and point. Resetting it usually works - unless there is something else going on.
The following is the BMW RESET procedure, same applies to LR3 accept instead of 5 seconds do it for 30 seconds in step "4":
Get in your car, it doesn't matter if you close the door or not.
Turn the key to the on (not start) position, the position just before the starter turns over. BMW: press start button – foot off brake - all idiot lights on.
Press the gas pedal to the floor till you feel a slight "click" with the key in the "on" position. BMW: All idiot lights on.
Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off position". BMW: foot off brake press start button - all idiot lights now off (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
Wait a full 2 minutes for a full electronic alignment. Don't remove the key.
Start engine, drive the car, notice the difference.

Hello,
Tried the reset process today.
It worked What a difference .
Now I can feel gears changing , the kick down works mush quicker and some of the juddering is gone .
Cross my fingers that it stays like that for a while.
Thank you Stornowatstu for the reset process.

I'm sceptical about this....
or
WAS!!
did the above instructions for a 'laugh' while eating my mc d's with me lad earlier..
probably held the accelerator down for more like 45 sec than the stated 30 and let the car sleep while we chomped.
I am still trying to convince my self its done nothing, but gear changes are certainly different
and its holding or changing differently, also had a bump when coming back down into the lower gears eg. at a traffic island, this is very much reduced!!
might not be a full reset maybe?? but it has improved the drivability marginally
