Try wiping the windscreen with some Rain-x where the sensor is. This will make the drops dissipate quickly and should therefore assist with overly sensitive auto wipers.
(btw, do you have Rain-x in the UK? If not I'm sure there's something similar)

Think I will try cleaning the windscreen...plus the idea of covering a couple of the sensors seems a novel idea.
I do use the the dual digit interface override function in times of need (eg my fingers...). It's more of a "have a function...would like it ti work...".
As I noted in the OP - in my wifes car, it works really well (and that cost a 3rd of a D3). (The auto sensing works well - not the dual digit interfacing... )

I'm glad to hear that you don't give other motorists the two finger interfacing

Yep its available here, I did the main screen areas with Autoglym fast glass (due to dead bugs) and this seems to help, will try the proper Autoglym glass polish at the weekend which is what really lifts the **** of the screen.
I agree on Auto=lazy argument, my other car has nearly every option except the auto wipers and lights, however on the HSE you are stuck with them, and if there was any way to disable the rain sensor and just have 4 speed intermittent (which is how I understand the rotating collar to suppose to adjust) this would suit me just fine.
It only drives me mad as minimum get stuck on constant not intermittent,
@Simon I get the same effect that if I turn off auto then turn it back on again it "resets" back to the expected speed for a minute before it gets confused again.
If the wipers are dry and dragging across the screen - its too fast in my view! Disco3 is now gone but not forgotten. Waiting for Disco6 with full aluminium construction weight reduction and hybrid engine...

I don't seem to have a problem with either the automatic wipers or lights... getting lazy in my old age!!
The only problem I'll admit to is... trying to pull away with the handbrake on and wondering why people are flashing at me when I take the Mini out at night!
The wipers do occasionally go 'full on' manic if you get a few spots of rain after a long dry spell, I just put that down as one of those little Discovery quirks! As you slide down the banister of life
may no splinters point your way
