Auto Xenon lights flash on start up

Does any body else experience their Xenon lights flashing when starting up? I have the lights set to auto, when I start the car when it is dark the lights come on, immediately go off and then immediately come back on. They then stay on and all is good but I have had past cars with xenons and none have done this, it seems weird to start the bulb and then turn it off before starting it again, surely this will reduce its life Question

Do they flash when you turn them on manually?

Did the car come from the factory with xenons fitted, if not the previous owner may have had them fitted and not enabled on the car.

Flack Thumbs Up

Don't you "have " to enable d4 xenons after retrofitting ?

Pretty sure they don't work at all unless you do

No, if I start the car and just turn them on all fine.

If I get in the car and press the button once to turn on the ignition thats when they come on, go off and come on, then the 2nd push of the button starts the car and they stay on.

Wiggs and Flack: The car has them as standard from the factory so they are not an aftermarket fit Very Happy

This tells me that the CCF setting is correct.

Is this linked with the start sequence, ie the lights drop out briefly at the point of maximum cranking before coming back on when the starter disengages?

You can test this by turning on the lamps manually just before cranking it, effectively taking the sensor and associated signals out of the equation.

No, when the car cranks they stay on, it's at the point of pushing the button and the ignition coming on.

Are you sure they do actually go off?- they do flash when they first strike up then go dim and build up to full power in about 4 seconds, thats what mine do anyway but I've only got a primitive D3 Smile
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

crip, I'm pretty sure my old MY10 used to do this so your not alone.

i worried about premature bulb blowing, that and the too sensitive auto bringing lights on unnecessarily so switched back to manual.

sadly i preferred to manually control my lights as i always popped signature lights on when driving so never bothered me too much. Embarassed

Thanks DaveC, I'm just seeing if other cars same age do the same, I know what you mean the auto can be more trouble than its worth and I can of course just turn the lights with my hand Thumbs Up
