Many thanks, I’ll have a look.

Does it fit ok on your car? Strong enough?

I’ve got metal on the D3 but put the vinyl on the V70’s rear sills. Looks all right and so far the minions haven’t managed to scratch through it with their shoes.

Thanks for the tip.

The vinyl has arrived but haven’t put it on yet - looks good though so fingers crossed should be ok.
Currently collecting parts to mount a Hannibal awning to the ProSpeed rack 😎
Plenty of other electrical jobs to finish as well once I get work jobs done!

am currently working on how to mount the Hannibal awning onto the ProSpeed rack.
So far I have a 3m length of Aluminium box section; my plan is to mount the awning to that and then the PS brackets to the box:

I knew that the radius of the bracket internal corners wouldn't quite marry up with the right angles on the box section, so I plan to use longer fixings to pull it up tight and then the two profiles should hopefully lock into each other.
My thinking is that if I round of the box section to match then it would become too weak, likewise - if I were to square off the internal curves of the brackets then that would create potential 'crack start points'.

I read that the ProSpeed folding brackets can be locked, presumably to stop easy theft - but I can't see how they can be - any ideas welcome

Then I have these black section ends which should do the job.

once I have it all installed and working I had planned to have it all black anodised to match the rack.

Now have the awning fitted on the roof rack, using the ProSpeed folding brackets.

Ends up being a bit higher than 'standard fit' but that works for me being taller than the average!
Fitted it as far back as possible considering the PS ladder when the rear door was open.

Some details of fitment:

between the box section and the awning brackets I cut and placed some high density rubber - enabled it all to tightly pull together once the bolts were tight.
Blue cable tie in there to help remove the split pin, although the pivot pins themselves are very tight at the moment which would suggest something is slightly out of square - I'll loosen everything, where possible, and see if I can introduce some slack and then tighten everything; might just be the weight on it that causing it to be tight as it's newly assembled?

The Aluminium section seems to work ok for now - used large washers all round to the spread any load where possible.

First observations are that it works really well when opened and I'm very happy with that.

Once closed - it's a bit of a mess! looks like lots of poles on the roof and I think that is because it is a 2.4m long awning, so long term it might be worth seeing if there is a slightly shorter one that fits neater onto the roof rack.

Also looks like it puts the overall height well over the 2m - which is an issue for car parking, especially airports. Haven't checked with suspension in access mode but think it must be over as it was close before!

Also don't think I am wrapping it up correctly as I'm fairly sure sure it should velcro closed along it's length, like this vid:
- at the moment the leading edge is surely going to collect all sort of crap when on the motorway and the front upper edge of the cover instantly folds over at any speed:

Would all look better if black anodised to match.

If you spot anything I've fitted incorrectly then please let me know Smile

Looks great! Have you noticed the extra weight affects the stability at (sensible) motorway speeds?

only been about 55 max since fitting it - not a lot of noticeable additional wind noise. am on motorway tomorrow so we shall see.
I've realised that the awning fabric needed to be further round - with the brackets folded onto the roof rack that resulted in the fabric being on top.
Moved it round and it sits much better - means I can velcro in places, but this cover doesn't have a strip all the way along the long edge.

also added a black ratchet strap at either end - mainly to stop loads of weather being pushed into it during driving.

My main concern is the lateral strain on the aluminium box section - I purposely used large washers to spread load where possible, but I do wonder if the ali may 'tear' sideways or twist then tear under extreme load - sadly only one way to find out!
I had been considering machining up a piece of oak to fit inside the aluminium section - might be a way forward to put my mind at rest!

Motorway speeds today - little bit of additional wind noise which his to be expected really.
But otherwise no noticeable difference in weight transfer.

Thought I’d just drive as normal - then if the aluminium section failed then I’d sort it after that.
On reflection I wussed and put in a couple of tethers just in case!

Today's jobs were electrics.
new boot handle fitted (the Ford unit) and works well.

Having recently reconditioned the FBH into working order I could then set about finally wiring in the Altox kit that I bought from Beannie a while ago.
Everything was easy to take apart and really simple to fit. When I was unsure about the last couple of wires I just sent him a quick text message and all sorted - top man!

indicator LED fitted

temp sensor fitted in behind the air vent

Last bits to sort tomorrow (inline fuse to +ve, connect all earths to main -ve and then fit the trigger wire I ordered to the FBH)

then all good to go when the crappy weather arrives Smile
