I had to wait for my Disco until after April 05 when the version of Disco 3 with Bluetooth functionality came out. I can't remember the software build I was quoted by my dealer - Stratstone of Mayfair - but they were by far the most conversant with the product.
I don't believe the update is retro fittable to earlier builds. I can confirm that it works brilliantly for making and receiving calls. I just leave my phone in my coat and the system integrates seamlessly in full handsfree mode when I am inside the vehicle.
The bluetooth functionality does seem to hammer the battery life though (in the phone, not the car!).
NB: If you want to use texting or the phone memory functions it has to be plugged into a socket in the centre binnacle using an LR phone specific adaptor plate. I don't use them normally so I haven't bought one.

note that the SMS/Text function is NOT SUPPORTED by the PTI System in a Disco 3 (and probably RRS too)
Despite the press release that said it would be supported for receiving texts, i can confirm that LR Customer Support and the new 2006 model manual which includes the factory PTI system (as its standard on HSE now) states that its not supported.
Therefore the only differences between bluetooth and cradle mode are:
Operator and signal information on screen
Phone book access
Call register access
Able to turn the phone off
The above are additional features when in the cradle only!
Oh.. also note that the 6230i V03.30 does not work in the cradle despite what LR tell you!

can someone confirm this is true? when I purchased my disco nov 2004 I was told the bluetooth was going to be releasaed in the new year. It is something I definitely wanted and discussed with my dealer and wass assured would be available. 
My headet is on its last legs and I had intended getting this kit fitted once problems with car were resolved (resent giving them more money till I know things will be sorted)

I have tried both an old Nokia 6310 and a new Nokia 6233 in the car without a cradle in both cases. The 6310 sort of works but there is no ring tone when calling out, but the version of the bluetooth software in the phone, is pretty old.
The 6233 works pretty well, aand I can dial using the number pad in the cra, but I cannot get the contact list from the phone into the D3 system, which sort of reduces its usefulness somewhat. The service man at the dealers did not have any suggestions. Disco 3 TDV6 HSE, Auto, White, Rear Diff Lock. ARB BB, Traxide DBS, GME TX3540S, Safari Snorkel, IIDTool-BT, Doran TPMS, Rijidij Spare Wheel Carrier, Two side by side Drifta drawers, cargo barrier and drop down fridge slide, ARB 47l Fridge, Yokohama A/Ts and out of date 17" Cooper STTs.

Bluetooth only, with no cradle, will not give you the address book. Nothing you can do about that I'm afraid.

I dont think so as the Parrot BT kit can down-load the address book over Bluetooth.

Therefore must be a limitation in the LR implementation, whic is a bit poor as they say that your phone can be in the back of the car. At least I think that is one of their claims. As Simon says, the Discovery accessory sysem (the one without the cradle).
However, what LR says is true - you just need to store the numbers onboard, rather than use the phone's directory.
The system certainly lacks the sophistication of some of the more common alternatives (Parrot being one).

 I would say have a parrot system fitted as this works well for me landrover dealer does not have a clue Russ 21

The Fl2 bluetooth connection can access your phone book, but only for the main phone in the car. There maybe hope yet! DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Hi
When I pair my phone with my disco 3 it works fine.
But every time I switch the disco off and then go back I have to re pair the phone with the disco every time I want to use it.
It is very frustrating, any help would be very grateful.
